I know some of you guys are running them but I would like to hear pros and cons of running one and not running one for AP&V work. Are they a worthwhile investment on a gasser?

As you can probably tell, I'm not running one on my GSR.

Thanks!

I just like to minimize the number of extra non-needed gadjets. I don't run a governor.

I turned down my throttle curve a bit on Monday... She's haulin' @$$ in this cooler weather

I've just noticed what I interpret as "over revving" of the engine sometimes while hauling a full load (camera, lens, and gyro) but only on descents. Didnt know if a governor would help something like that.

Thanks!

Hey Tony,
I just two weeks ago installed GV-1's and Stator Gators on both my GSR's and so far LOVE them. I was pretty good with setting up my curves, but with the varying weights that I carry the GV's help me a lot.
I two would have the curves correct for ascent but when I started my descent the main rotor would "over-speed" by a hundred or so RPM's.
Also I like knowing exactly what rotor speed I am running as I do not have an optical tach.
I will never have another AP Gasser with out the Gov.
I thought back on my crash with my Vario six months ago, and the cause NO DOUBT was to low of a head speed and the throttle curve behind the pitch curve. I WOULD HAVE SAVED MY SHIP AND VIDEO CAMERA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once again NEVER will I have an AP ship with out it.
Another benefit is I can much easier tune my pitch curve to suit my style of flying and do not have to worry so much about the throttle curve.
Not lazy just much more precise I think.

Thanks for the advice guys! This has been something I've been wondering about for a while. Still not sure if/when I'll install one. I'm sure the topic of which one is best is a whole 'nuther thread.
Thanks again!

Once the governor is working fine I have to say I love it. Before that I hated it. Now works perfect for me! My pack is GV-1 and stator gator in a Vario Benzin Acrobatic.

I stayed away from them for about 3 years, saying "I did not need them" My curves are fine. But I tried them now and don't see me going back.

Governors can be beneficial but will mask poorly setup throttle and pitch curves. On the GSR I often forget to switch the governor on, and only remember when making slow right(?) turns when the extra load caused by adding T/R pitch, whilst in an almost hover situation, begins to change the engine note.

A constant head speed means a constant tail rotor speed which means gyros work better and when decending and there is much less chance of tail wag due to rpm change in the head. Although as already stated a good pitch/thottle curve can have a similar effect..
