Hi all!

I have a question. I just bought an YS91 ST engine. I am going to put this engine on my R90. Fan,clutch, and nut size are different?
Do I need to buy those thing for YS?

I heard that R90 fan and clutch system are made for OS engine. Is this true?

If I need to buy then where can I get those?

Please let me know...

Thank you

Yes, YS uses a different thread. ThunderTiger designed for their own motor, which happens to be the same thread as the OS. The TT metal upgrade fan is the best for ease of set-up. Some will tell you to re-thread the TT fan. I would not recommend this, unlless you can dial indicate the fan in a quality lathe, and then use the lathe to tap the hole.

I will be building a 90SE here pretty soon and plan to put a YS in it. I am going to use the Quick UK fan. They have one set up for the YS91 and it already has the holes for the governor magnet.!!

Just ask the metal shop to tap it for you. Did mine for like 20 bucks

Good choice. Phaedrus, put a dial indicator on that QUK fan when you get it.

Not to go against you Al as you probably know better than I. When I did the research on what 90 size engine to buy, it was suggested that YS and Hatori go together better and OS and MPII go better together. Not sure if there is any truth to that? I use the Hatori on my YS 91...seems to work great.

I wouldn't know, but I stood next to Curtis many times, and witnessed how the MP2 held back the OS that he was flying. My guess is, if there were a YS in the machine, it would have been just as impressive. 98% of what you read/research is crap. That includes my stuff. This thread is about a fan, right?

Oh boy....There are lots of mufflers for YS.

I searched on the web.

I found two. Which are century CN3090 Century Silent Power Tuned Muffler for All 90 Size $69.95 and Revolution muffler(reasonable price).

Do we really need expensive muffler?

The MPII works well on a ys91 but you have to be carefull taking it up from idle to taking off or the engine quits. I also had trouble with autos, engine keep quiting at the bottom of the auto etc. Had to put a viper head on it in the end but now it's awesome You don't get this problem with the hitori, transitions nice and smooth.

Have to agree that the Viper head does seem to make an improvement on the YS, but I have not heard of your problems on the MP2/YS combo before, sounds weird

My recommendation would be a Hatori SB-16 or SB-16FB with the YS-91. I'm flying 2 YS-91's now, one with a SB-17 and the other with a SB-18. Both perform VERY well.

I have helped a fellow flyer with a YS and MPII, we worked hard to solve the same problems the DRUNK MONK spoke of. In the end, we put a Hatori on it and all was fine.

I think the MPII is better suited for the OS, but the Hatoris definitely work better on the YS's.

I use the Quick UK fans in both by 90SE and 60V2. I have had no problems or issues with them. And it seems like someone at Quick UK actually has a brain because the govenor magents holes are all pre-drilled in the right spots/depths.

I would never re-tap any fan. Buy a correct fan for a YS engine.

After flying both the MP II and the Hatori SB-16FH I feel the Hatori is much better in sound, performance, looks and finish quality.

Isn't the SB-17 and SB-18 designed for the OS?

I use a YS in my 90 STD with a tapped fan without any problems. I watched my mate Rick re-tap djandyling's brand new Raptor 90SE fan at the field! Flies nice and smooth.

Also run an MP2 and 20% Magnum. To date no problems with transition between idle and hover....

LS1HELI,

Your right about the Hatori numbers. I had mine all confused.

I've edited my post to show the proper number.

THANKS for catching that, I'd hate to direct someone in the wrong direction.

yttutty,

The fans for the OS can be properly retaped for the YS. I have done several.

I do them in a lath and dial indicate for the exact center before running the tap in.

If you would like to have your fan retapped, send it to me, I'll do it for free. Your only cost from me would be the return postage.
