I'vr got a 5D ordered to replace my EOS 20D, but I've always been a Nikon guy. I just sold my D100 on ebay and I've been reading with interest the preliminary reports on the D200. Just wondering if anyone else out there is considering it...

Thanks!
Dave

Well once you go 5D you will never go back.

I was not that impressed by the "changes" for the D200.

I felt for the money my D70 did just as much or your 20D for that matter.

Time will tell though.

Thanks for the response!

The thing that has disappointed me with the 20D is the fine detail clarity that I am not getting that I got right out of the camera with my D100. It seems that I have to do a lot of image manipulation to get close. I don't know if it is the CMOS sensor or what, but I wasn't impressed. I haven't had a chance to handle the new 5D, as the local shop that I do business with had a backlog and he hasn't had one around long enough to sit in the case to handle. how is the fine detail of the 5D? Will it be as good or better than the D100/200? aside from the AP work I do freelance stuff for the local paper and just enjoy getting out and shooting. I guess every photographer has there hang ups-speed, white balance, color saturation, etc,... I guess my thing is ULTRA sharp fine detail.

Thanks!

Shoot me an offer-she's slated for Ebay next week! It's a month old-still have the box and all the fixin's. I'd rather sell it to someone here...

Dave,
I am pretty anal about sharpness.

I found the 20D to be fine. Now I have heard of others that had lens issues on some other forums.

I also was working with a freinds camera and the IS lens she had wouldn't focus for anything until I "tapped" it on the side.

Canon lenses are a crap shoot IMO at best. Nikon has always ruled the lens world.

With that said the 5D has been great on the L series lenses.
Very sharp to me. My partner noticed some chromatic aborations the other day and we have not really had time to test that out anymore.
However this is one of the first batch so maybe it is a defect.
It was very slight and could have been fixed easily, but for that kind of $$$$ it shouldn't be there at all.

Now if I could only put a Nikon lens on a Canon body or a DIGIC II chip in a Nikon body.

Jason-
I here you there-If the world was a perfect place I would build my own from the ground up. Canon body, Nikon lens, and the digic. Maybe someday I'll win the lotto and do a medium format with a nice digital back...

It is good to hear you are having great luck with your 5D. I'll give it a shot (pun intended) and see how it does. Not going to cancel my name on the list for the D200 though

KC-
The delivery for the D200 is sometime mid Dec. I am first on the list here in central Iowa, so hopefully I'll get one close to the guestimated delivery date. I have played around with the settings on the D20 and although it is a GREAT camera I, at least, am not getting the results I was hoping for.

Thanks!
