Yestarday some leaders of the Popular Party here in Spain were close to death in an helicopter accident.
It seems there's a video here (sorry, in spanish):
http://www.elmundo.es/documentos/20...tero/index.html

Anyone can figure out what happened? Newsletters say lack of power combined with the strong winds blowing yesterday.

Is there a life outside the sim?

What does this have to do with a full scale heli going down?

I know. And if you read it it's a reference to a model being mistaken for a full size heli. This thread is about a full size heli going down and someone asking why. Where's the corelation?

I watched the video 3 times , looks like a little puff of smoke near the tail just before it starts to piro out of control. Looks like the tail let go.

My guess would be LTE or Loss of Tail Rotor Effectiveness. Real heavy, high hover, no airspeed, perhaps a rear quartering tailwind and pulling lots of power (note the amount of pitch on the main blades) and the tail rotor can't produce enough thrust to overcompensate for the torque.

Don't know how relevant this is, but - This is the third full size heli-crash I've seen on these pages, with a common theme.

All the subject full size helis were crossing a major feature just a little ways below them.

First one I remember was a rescue heli going low, over a sharp snow covered ridge. As it crossed the ridge - down she came. Brrrrrr!

Second one was a Navy heli approaching a landing spot on a ship. As the heli approached low over the ships structure, the pilot seemed to lose control. Splash!

This is the third one.

Assymetrical Lift???

Well, the real one didnt catch on fire.
Did you watch the vid? The lady thought the model was real and was affraid the R/C would start a fire. All I ment was I think the lady would have about as much chance of a full scale crashing and burning down her house as she would the R/C one doing the same..
It was a corny joke
Yeah, I guess.. Atleast you got the joke and moved on..

I agree with scott s. I believe the tail let go! You can see the puff of smoke just before the piro.

That aircraft uses an alison aircraft engine your not going to see the puff of smoke if the tail let go he would have done more of a piro. He was trying to clear the stadium.

:P thats my guess anyways. LOL

Helicopter crash in Spain

If you click on the link from Luckylandings it goes to a post from Erich Stolz and if you click on the link from Erich there is another video of the crash. It is of the full size helicopter crash in Spain. Look for the video that says "Helicopter Crash Injures Spanish Leader".

All i get is a tiny little piece of junk video, the resolution is so terrible, how can you see anything? Was there a link to a bigger video or something?

This is a better video and it has information about the people inside. Just minor injuries. Look for and click on "Helicopter crash injures Spanish leader".

I agree, the tail apparently cannot keep up, they were truly lucky. Auto Rotation doesn't work very well when your tail leaves you.
