Hi.

I have a slight problem with my R60 ( TT70 engine).

Whilst flying and when I unload the rotor-disc (eg , cut the throttle
or when getting the heli to dive) , I can hear a very audible
'crackling - gear' mechanical noise from the machine and this
then results in tail shaking from side to side (probably due to the
Gyro picking up that vibe).

I have replaced the main gear (the Grey Plastic gear) thinking
that there might be some problems there , but to no avail. The
tail gears have been dismantled and checked ... okay .. no
missing teeth , etc.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks.

any slop in the mainshaft? if there is check to see if your bearing blocks are installed properly, also is your tailboom jammed into the stops? you should jam it in then back it out approx 3mm so the d-shaft will float...check ALL of your gear pins as well....if one is backing out and hitting something it make a noise....oh bearings on the t-tube....good, bad, indifferent?

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

I did install the top bearing block upside down and this resulted in
alot of up-down play in the mainshaft.

After correcting that , the noise was very much reduced , but is
still present.

Should I try to shim the mainshaft to eliminate up-down play ?

And is there a possibility of there being too much clearance
between the drive pinion and the main gear ?

thanks.

I had the same kind of sound in my R90 with OS91 c-spec PS. It turned out to be the engine going lean. I riched it up a couple of clicks at main needle and the sound disapeared.

strangely enough , one guy at the field thought so as well , ie , a
mixture problem.

but the sound is really 'mechanical' sounding.

do you still have up and down play....the lower can be installed improperly as well...
long shot here barring any tuning issues....whats the state of affairs as far as your one way is concerned?

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.
