Im going to purchase a TRex 450XL HDE or CDE. Which is the most popular, the CDE(ccpm) or the HDE(mechanical mixing)? Please list which one you are flying and any comments you have. I was just wanting to take a poll.

You will find the CDE will win the poll. In the stock versions, I think they fly the same so it is a matter of preference. For a beginner the HDE is a bit easier to set up then the CCPM version.

With the carbon frame set ups and such, those are all CCPM like the CDE version and even better.

We (my son and I) use the HDE, but will be moving to the CCPM versions soon.

Probably over 90% of the helicopter pilots could not tell the difference – they both fly great. I have noticed that whatever a particular person is flying is always the best – just ask someone. The eCCPM (CDE) may feel a little more precise during precision hovering and other precision maneuvers. The mCCPM (HDE) mechanically compensates for all the collective/cyclic interaction and is good for maneuvers that use extreme collective inputs – it is also a little easier to setup.

I started with CDE and then got a HDE. I actually like the HDE better for 3D because I don’t have to compensate for the control interactions that are inherent in eCCPM (CDE) control systems. I have been flying a lot of big Raptors (50 and 90) for a long time (probably the best control system around) so the interaction thing really bugs me. If I fly my Raptor then my CDE T-Rex I really notice the difference. With a bit of practice you can fly either equally well.

It seams like the trend with electric flyers is eCCPM while the trend is the oppisite with nitro flyers. eCCPM was the trend but now it is going back the other way to mCCPM.

Have you ever noticed that some people just like to ramble on forever!

LOL!

I like ccpm cuz it feels more precise and control are more sensitive.

The CDE version is a lot less load on the servos, and they tend to wear the same.

In the HDE version the pitch servo has a lot of work to do.( It virtually has to hold the pitch on the blades, which hold the whole helicopter in the air....)

BTS hit the nail on the head. Properly executed and set up, there isn't a whole lot of difference in how the two control systems fly.

The CDE is probably a bit more "servo friendly" as the load is shared by three servos, and the micros are probably near their limits in small helis. The CDE version is apparently a bit harder on servo drive trains in crashes, though, from reports on this thread.
