For a look at the way a driven tail should be done, eyeball the Evo. The white gear is a fix for a design that was doomed from inception. I'm happy the new Raptor V3 is coming out. Those new decals really turn me on.

Autohub Mod

Al,

Those new decals are everything I always wanted in a Heli?
Will the new Raptor Titantium fly as good as an EVO 50
now that it looks like one and has push-pull on the ELV
& Collective?

Imatation not Inovation at it 's best

In fact it is the hub that is wearing out, the aluminium is shaved off.
A few months ago I had to order new hub and new gear to get rid of all the slop and extra friction that had developed. Hub+gear is definitely more than $10 but still cheap enough.

Maybe someone can redesign an upgrade part for this gear construction. But I prefer all plastic though and most upgrade parts seem to be obligatory aluminium these days

The benchmark of the Century line.

That's because the mold required for a two cent part, can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

That reminds me, I'm going to go over to Team- Decal.net (Raptor) now, to see if anyone has posted anything new, in the last week or so. See ya!

Don't know about that mod in MHT, but I use an aluminum bottom gear and mine never locks up or wears out.

That would be the one to install a bearing in. I've turned up a few of the white TT gears, and like all things ThunderTiger, really whacked out of round, is the theme.

The timing belt stock is available from SDP and the rest is machine work. It looks nice but you have to have the shop tools and the knowledge. For the uninitiated, the task may be daunting.

Vis a vis the MHT article, if you want to commit this much time to something like what they did for almost no benefit and add weight to the machine in the form of a big bearing that is up to the individual. Personally, I would rather machine up a hub that uses the old red gears and not have to add anymore weight to the assembly. IMHO, that is time well spent rather than adapting a ball bearing to the auto hub and then boring out the tail drive gear to fit. You would have to do the new bore to every drive gear like this. If you have the shop tools and the ability this is great but if you could buy a hub adapter like Rick's used to sell you could use the old red gear and not have this problem.

I agree with you Terry, but 99.9% of the people her could not do the machine work required. The gear that Patrick posted a picture of is available from from one of the Raptor sources. Maybe Patrick can help?

The bearing size is 25x32x4. I called Boca Bearings and they have them with a rubber seal for $39.95 (ouch!!). In the magazine, it says that you can order them from http://www.torcman.de. They are 7 euros and 9 US dollars. I am not for sure what language the website is in so I cannot view it. All the above info came for MHT, except for the Boca Bearings thing.

That's the one I tried.
I found a 25 x 32 x 4 from Boca but the seals gave too much resistance at full head speed. Actually warmed up the bearing on bench test.
That's what I put in my post earlier.

If you want to use this size bearing, you should use the one without a seal. Less rolling resistance.

The gear I have I bought it from a guy here on RR. Forgot where the guy bought it from originally? Maybe he will see it and chime in.

I believe Quick-UK already stated that a 30/50 autohub was on their "to-do" list. After seeing how nice of a job they did on the 90 autohub, I can't wait for the smaller version.

You never know if you don't ask. I would think it would be a good thing for Quick UK to make. I just hate when my auto hub would lock out everytime.

Don't bother! When I first started flying I spent hours and hours fine tuning my raptor before I realized it's a low cost plastic heli
I'm sure that's the attitude of our "reps" also. " Fine tuning" , and making the breed better, are really two different things. Helibird, sitting in the stands, and watching the game, is commendable, but if ALL of us did that, you would still be flying a Cricket, with a four channel AM radio.
