I have mounted my gyro with the circular direction arrows going in the direction of the main rotor pointed up. when I start to move all the heli does is spin in circles no matter what I do to the rudder control. Any clues

Have you tried switching the direction of the rudder control on the transmitter?

Had the same problem, mounted the gyro acording to instructions but I had to rotate it opposite to the manual to make it sense correct

Since I am currently building my first Corona (my first Heli), and I have a GWS PG-03 Gyro, I'd like to make sure I don't mount it upside down. The instructions are showing it mounted with the LED at the top. Is this orientation wrong? Thanks.

Circles

That sounds like a newer version of the same gyro I use. When you mount it dont do it permanent until the first ground checks you will know right away if its upside down. Sorry trial and error is the ticket in my shop. You will love that heli.

These tips don't seem to be working for me. I have a new Corona 120M (the aluminum crutch upgrade) and I'm using a Futuba GY240 gyro with HS-81 servos and Micro 555 receiver with a Hitec 4 channel Tx...
I also have the brushed Fusion 7 motor with the electro fusion 35 ESC...

I'm trying to do my ground checks and this heli is all over the place. I have the gyro gain set at 75% and I've tried a few different mounting positions, but it still spins like a top. Channel 1 for left/right (left stick) seems to move the tail the opposite way no matter if I reverse the channel on the TX or not. The motor is pulsing intermittently too....what am I missing ??

Goes in circles

Your gyro is upside down.
I went through fits with the same thing.
Good luck and let me know how it goes

Wow,

you mean I don't mount it with the printed side face up? I thought the face of the GYRO with the gain adjustment and the direction selector would be face up......won't hurt to try it.

I could've sworn I've seen others mounted face up....

THanks, I'll give it whirl....(literally I guess!!)

well, I tried mounting the gyro the opposite way but it made no difference. Back to square one. I know I hooked up the electrics correctly.....but I'll check them again....this is disappointing.

with gy240, you need to mount it with label pointing up. first thing you need to do, is to make sure that your control is in right direction. you can do this with really low head speed. set gain to 50%, and throttle up until it locks. you may have to reverse the direction on the gyro. if you cannot stop from turning, you may need to adjust the linkage. (it may not be providing enough t/r pitch in one direction...)

Well, I did get it sorted out with help from my brother in law....

We ended up reversing channel 4 on the TX, and the main source of the problem was the RX glitching from the antenna lead being to close to the ESC and motor. After that it was hovering...

Thanks to all for helping out....

Glad we got the beastie flying! It incredible how heavy it is. Glitches are nasty little buggers. Does anyone use ferrite rings on the Corona, and does anyone have some good pics of how you ran your antennae and control wiring?

Up-side-down gyro!!!! THAT'S what was wrong. Drove me crazy for half a day trying to setup a new (to me) 120. I just put a Zoom 400 on her and could not get it to fly without very eratic tail movements. Watched this thread and turned it upside down - SHE FLIES!

There's a fine line between hobby and obsession - guess which side of the line I'm on.

askman,

What landing gear do you have on your Coronas and do you notice a significant difference with the tail supports?

all my coronas are BT bird or bt/askmanAP.com setup. I make aerialphoto gears for airplanes/helis. so, I make my own LGs in most cases or use BT stock LGs(ballistictechnology.com)

tail boom support is very helpful. especially if you are experiencing wags. it is amazing amount of flex that tail can see.

Spinning Corona

I too have a LMH 120 Corona that I have been trying to get airborn for about a year. I'm usuing a Futaba 240 gyro and I haved tried reversing it by turning it around on the mounting plate and I have also tried the reversing switch on the gyro. It has a mega motor and a 35 castles creations speed controller. I am using channel 4 on my Hitec Eclipse 7 radio. I am also using a Seeker 6 RX. I have tried just about everything but I think my problem is in the setting up or adjustment of the linkage/Servo. My heli likes to spin like crazy in a clockwise direction. The main rotor spins in a counter clockwise direction. I have added many of BT upgrades such as the belt drive, hyper drive, crazy case, crooked crutch, X treme 7 mm shaft. I have played with the channel end point adjustments on channel 4. It just seems I can't set the T/R travel for both direction properly. I am not really sure if I like the tail setup on this heli.... All the other heli have a much better setup. Any assistance would be appreciated. If anyone has some tips on setting the mechanical linkage and servo adjustments it would be a big help. I have been very frustrated with this thing. Thanks, Bill
