I don't know so much . That news report was from back in March , since then I've heard that there are new batteries expected to be fitted in high end power tools ( Dewalt ? ) during 2006 . If they are suitable for power tools , they will probably be suitable for us , and with the high production numbers involved with power tools the prices should come down nicely .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

I have calculated in another thread (where was it.?...) that the current standard LiPo technology has the same energy density as those new DeWalt/MIT/whatever batteries. Of course they compare only with LiIon

The 6 minutes charge may be good news, until you realize $$$ a 200A (600A?) charger I dunno but standard connector and wires probably will melt at that current?

A 6 minute charge on a 2000mah pack will only be 20 Amps, not 200.

Only 20 amps? So much for my 3amp Radio Shack power supply. I'd have to seriously consider a PC power supply conversion if I needed to supply that much current and even then would probably have to combine a couple of the rails.

http://www.a123systems.com is the manufacturer to watch at the moment... and if you can justify it, they'll send you a few samples.

a123 systems does look impressive.
I expect that sometime next year, back to back flying on electric helis will be possible with just 2 packs.
