I am going to build a Cobra. (decision made...now for the wife's approval..)

Anyway, I have been looking at the Century Predator/Tow Cobra thing .

Has anyone built one of these and if so, what extras do I need to get?

I doubt, near-term, you will see anyone producing either the AH-1W (2 blade version) or the AH-1Z (4 blade Super Cobra) in fuselage or kit form, other than the some of the scale guys who have the capability. I believe that Hirobo does have a "whiskey" come to think of it...you might want to have a look at that.

Dr. Tim's was an absolute masterpiece. Unfortunately, I only got to see it in video, however I did get to see his Super Puma up close and personal this past summer.....also very nice.

Well it looks like everyone is building turbines. Unfortunately that's a little beyond my budget.

So, I called Century but couldn't get through. Emailed them, no answer.
After reading a few posts, I have decided to go the Hirobo route..even though I think hirobo is asking crazy high prices. (havent decided between the AH-1S or the whiskey)

Do any of you have a pdf of the hirobo cobra manual, or info as to which engine/muffler I can use? Also, what size blades? What about their mechs...any good?

On the MRC site I saw that they say it's shaft drive...but the photos don't show it.

Anyway thanks for all the information from you "snake" drivers.

I really like my friend Butch's Cobra. It is a Hirobo kit he has finished himself. It is gorgeous and he flys it like it should be flown(low and fast). I know Hirobo makes them in an arf and a kit too in the super cobra version, and I know they make a kit in the tow version.

the hirobo super cobra is nice... i miss mine

it is shaft driven with 3 dogbones. which in my opinion created a lot of vibration. flexidrive would work better i think.

some of the panel lines are not to scale.

as far as the engine, i don't remember the model # but os makes a rear exhaust that will work. mta hobbies should have it along with the muffler.

the snake looks good in the air.... blast that damn blue smoke though. wish someone made one for gas.

goo luck.

Extremely nice looking Cobra, there justafireman! Dr. Tim hit the nail on the head when he said Butch was the exception and not the rule. Butch's Cobra was absolutely immaculate in every detail....it was so danged hot and humid in Muncie that Butch had engine problems which clouded over what should have been a winner. But, as Dr. Tim said, Butch is going to be dang hard to beat and I am hoping that he will enter it in the Nationals as well.

BTW, Butch has one helluva caller and spotter....she is his "significant other."

i also built the hirobo cobra and love flying it. mine is different then justafireman's, mine has the flexible drive system. i got mine about three years ago, so they must have changed it sometime around then. if you are thinking about building a cobra, i would really consider the hirobo, it is a great kit.

Patrick, im building the Super Cobra from Hirobo, the engine is the OS61RX and the Hirobo box muffler for the rear exhaust. A mate here is using the same engine in his century cobra.
