In reference to GroundPounders R50 vs. T-Rex post.

I refuse to throw more money at the T-Rex.

First I had the servo canopy issue, I cut the canopy but the holes were becoming too big.

Then I changed the servos around, and the swash would not raise or lower uniformly.

My loops would end up being a cork screw!!

I looked at the setup, and removed the extra linkages putting the servos directly on the swash.

This is easy to do if you have a dremmel tool.

Since I have done this, I am able to comfortably hover on my 3ft X 3ft mat in my lounge.

I suggest that people do this. Only place to be careful is when cutting the servo mount. one side is weak, (I think align did this on purpose). I used the off cut plastic and a solder iron to build it up a bit.

I since searched on RR and found that there are others (with pictures) on RR have done this. Try http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t216350p1/ by barkcollar (thanks- weird name though)

Then I put another aluminum collar in the head to stiffen it up, this also helps and the tracking is ok.

BTW, I bought this thing to practice new stuff so I don’t destroy my R50!! Anyway, I hope to test this weekend in FFF, and some loops rolls.

Nice mod. But my CDE flies great. Plus I like the fact the servos are insulated from ground forces in a crash. I have broken 2 servo arms so far on my CDE and have stripped NO gears. Compared to my other Rex'es.

Wheel collars slow down the cyclic, not good for throwing around the heli.

I understand the issue of not having ground effects on the servos and considered that before chopping my rex, but....
We are spoilt my our big machines and I guess need the small ones to fly a bit better. I think that if we are capable of doing the mod, we have good enough understanding of the heli, e-CCMP, and can fly well enough. servos are $5,00.....
