I have a question. I have a Airtronics RD 8000 radio and I want to use it for my new Trex 450 ccpm. And suggestions on what kind of servos to use. The guy at my local hobby shop said I should use the Futaba 6exh transmitter because it's made for the Trex and comes with the servos He said put aside the rd8000. Can someone share some advice.I am kindy of new to R/C helicopters .I am building my first Trex and any advice or recommenditions would great be appreciated.

any six channel or more TX, capable of 120 degree ccpm mixing will work. There is no TX "specially made" for the Trex. Thats typical salesman talk.

However, having said that - i dont think alot of guys fly with that transmitter you have so finding other people who know alot about it could be a problem. Of course you have the entire knowledge base of the collective internet community to tap here so it shouldnt be that much of a problem.

Most people do fly with futaba or JR but in the end its all about preference and everyone will argue why their radio brand is better.

Frankaart,

Here are something for you to think about:

1. Will I need a good radio coz I want to go further into these hobby like doing airplanes and helicopters? Do I need a radio that really be fined tuned?

2. How much am I willing to spend on this Hobby particularly on my radio.

I had wasted money on 2 Radio, coz they are entry level. One is analog the other is an entry level computer radio. I ended up getting a Futaba 9C Super for my airplanes and helis. You can try checking out JR radios as well..

Our transmitters are mainstay.. while our aircraft keeps changing.. My point is get a really good.

I agree that if you are going to buy one and plan on staying in this hobby for quite awhile dont upgrade your radios in steps. Go for the best radio you will ever need. Something 9 channel like the futaba 9c or 9z will do everything you will ever need from a radio.

However, this guy already OWNS a radio. I dont blame him for wanting to use it instead of buying a new one specifically for the trex. Use what you have if you can and when you upgrade, go to the best and you will never have to upgrade again. It saves you money in the long run.

hey
in my opinion you already have a great radio that will carrry you far....

the guy at your hobby shop is just trying to get more money in his pockets ....that's a shame

i'm using the Airtroincs RD8000 on my T-rex (HDE) and it is working great....it does have 120 mixing capability so i saw go for it....

the Airtronics RD8000 is a great radio for the money and can do everything the big boys can except the only thing i found it lacking is like a nice screeen....like the XP303 or whatever that JR one is....

IMO not needed....stick with it....read the manual.....follow that and then come back to RR if you have any questions.....so many people here willing to help

what happened to hobby shops now a days

Thanks
~Will

If you can't set the TRex up with the RD, the 6EXH is just going to piss you off. The dude at the LHS is just plain wrong about the RD. That is exactly the radio that I would use. It has more of everything that a growing boy needs to make the TRex fly great.

Like Will said, the RD is a great radio.

That is just plane BS.

IMO the RD8000 is a far better radio then the 6exh.

Upgrades to your radio would be Futaba 9C or the JR 9303. IMO

Get yourself some Hitech servos (HS56 or HS55 for head and HS56 for Tail (Unless you want a better tail servo with a GY401).

Airtronics makes a nice little reciever, or get an Electron 6.

frankaart,
I would use the ATX radio. It is fine radio and will serve you well.

Willard,
The 6exh has 5 point pitch and throttle curves. You do the Forums Readers a disservice posting such misinformation!

The T6XHS should work with a T-Rex. It will do normal swash mixing, as well as CCPM swash mixing.

The T6XHS isn't the greatest choice of transmitter for a helicopter, but it will suffice to get you in the air and fly. As a helicopter radio, it has limited functionality, but will get you flying if you own one.

I have started with the T6XHs. It will work, but if you want to stick with Futaba and just starting out, you get more bang for the buck with the 7C. The 7C has 5 point curves, but the T6 doesn't.

it both amazes me and pisses me off when people bash the Rd8000. i would like to know 1 single feature that you would use on a trex that the rd8000 cannot do?

i have used the rd8000 for my raptor 50, raptor 60, hummingbird PRO, hummingbird FP, dragonfly, zagi, mini speed wing and now my Trex CDE. it will do everything 95% of flyers will ever need to do. I also like that it will do both positive and negative shift which really helps with reciever selection.

The bottom line is, why spend 700 dollars on a radio when a 200 dollar rd8000 will do everything you need it to do.

that guy at yoru LHS needs his butt kicked!!

stick with the rd8000 you cant go wrong with that radio.

RD 8000

I do appreciate everybodies replies reference the RD8000. Looks like I willl be using my RD8000 on my new T-REX, instead of speading $200+ on another radio that my local hobby shop salesman wanted to sell to me.

Get a futaba 7 channel CHP. Here is a link check it out: http://www4.mailordercentral.com/he...p?number=179215
This is a very well priced radio. Comes with a 10 model memory and is very easy to use and set up. It is a great radio, and if that is not enough for you then go for the futaba 9ch super, this radio is a little more expensive but it is also very easy to use with perprogrammed throttle and pitch curves and can be hooked up to your computer. This radio is much more advanced but will last you as long as you need it too.
