IRCHADirections - Lodging - Where to EatAMA Site 4All AMA documents
Start planning now for the 2006 IRCHA HELI JAMBOREE slated for August 10th thru the 13th.

We have the entire AMA site, that’s site 1,2/3, and 4, from the 6th to the 13th of August 2006!!!

We are also working on an event, which would be held at site 2/3 on the Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday prior to the start of the Jamboree.

I’m planning on a full week of Heli flying this year so if you are up to it plan on getting to the site early in the week.

As usual we will be holding a drag, auto and scale competition. The scale competition will, as usual, be according to the AMA 518 rule with NO watering down, and a “protected” flight station.
I’m looking for an energetic person to manage the drags and auto contest as this year Mr. Ron Lund, who has hosted the event for a number of years, (many thanks to Ron!!!!!) wants to compete once again. (Personally I think it’s because Ken Jennings is back in full speed and with Warren French holing onto his class…..)

We will have a link on the ICHA web site to motels in the area in order for you to get your reservation in early.

Check into the IRCHA web site for news updates relative to the 2006 Jamboree.

Ron K – 2006 Jamboree Event DirectorImportant Frequency Information for the Jamboree

The 2nd week of August will be a busy one at the AMA site. Of course, as you are aware, the 2006 Jamboree will be held the 10 thru 13th, but in addition, the US Team Trials will occur the 7th, 8th, and 9th. The Team Trials are used to select who will represent the US at the 2007 R/C Helicopter World competition in Poland.

During the Team Trials AMA site 1, that’s the northern most site, may be utilized for open flying with the following restrictions:

Channels 02, 05, 07, 23, 36, 41, 51, and 60 will be restricted to the Team Trial site, which is the R/C Multipurpose site. In other words, these channels will be locked down for these 3 days. If you are coming early, which many folks do, you must be on any channel but those listed.
Also, if you come to watch some of the best flyers in the world please observe silence during the flights out of respect for the pilot.

During the Jamboree we also have channel restrictions. As we did last year, we will have site 2 allocated for Class 1, 2, 3, and FAI flying utilizing channels 24, 44, and 01. These are the only channels allowed at site 2 and MAY NOT be used at site 4 (the Jamboree site). We will also restrict usage of channels 27, 47, and 06, which are dedicated to noon demo and manufacturers demos during the event.

In summary, if you are on channels 24, 44, 01, 27, 47, or 06 you must change channels in order to fly at the event.

The scale event will utilize channels 20, 50, and 01. These will not be restricted channels as we fly early mornings but we are requesting that if you would like to fly in the scale event please be on those channels.

As always, any questions may be directed to me at jamboree@ircha.org

Thank You

Ron K. Event Director

I will be there too Ron, What is NO watering down, and a “protected” flight station for the Scale comps. mean? If I am flying a $10,000 Hand Built Scale helicopter I would want the flight station Protected!! Makes no sense to have something destroyed that you just spent 9 months building because some guy with a $300 rapter just flew into your flight station. Also these larger Helicopters need a bit more room to fly ... maybe 2 or 3 stations for the Scale comps ... Only takes an hour or two to finish. I am sure the 3D guys enjoy the show as well!

And yes I am available to help!!

FAI and Scale Together on Site 2

I think the most logical layout would be to have the Scale Competitors and the FAI area in the same place. I know that the FAI flightline at site 2 was barely used this year,,,,,,,So why not put FAI and Scale in the same place.

Scale Flights

Dr.Tim,

I agree with you even if I do own a $300.00 Raptor. Ha Ha.

I think it would be really selfish of others attending the IRCHA event to not give up a "couple of hours of flying at a couple of flight sations" to see and admire the excellent workmanship and flying abilities of the SCALE helicopters attending.

I may be wrong be I think IRCHA is an organization to promote "all" forms of helicopter flying and SCALE is an important part of the IRCHA organization.

Quite a crowd assembled and admired the excellent workmanship of the SCALE entries and the beautiful flights that followed at IRCHA 2005.

I hope that the administrative "group" that will run the 2006 IRCHA event will reconsider and give you guys ample space to fly your machines. Their are plenty of flight stations (probably 10 or more) and to give up a few of these for a couple of hours is not much to ask the excellent show put on by the SCALE contestants.

If the goal is to provide "more flying time" for those attending the event then I would suggest the administrators of the event concentrate on an improved frequency management system by keeping the posted allowed flying time within the posted limits.

I volunteered and helped at the IRCHA event last year and intend on doing the same in 2006.

I for one enjoyed the SCALE portion of the event and hope to see you there in 2006.

Ron, Thanks to you and your administrative "group" for a great IRCHA event in 2005.

I'm assuming "No watered down" probably means flying more than one round next year...Only $10,000 Tim? What, no turbine for next year? Say it aint so...

Dr. Tim,

I'll have my tent right beside yours next year so I always have a good view of that mystery scale heli and so that you don't have to go so far during the event to grab a bite of the B-B-Q on the stick

I'd be happy to have the scale folks join the FAI line. The main reason that it was used so little in '05 was b/c the Team was in Spain along with their support staff who also fly FAI and quite a few other FAI pilots had personal obligations that kept them from attending IRCHA in general.

I agree with Dr.Tim. I would want the flight station Protected. I'm planning on going this year and will be bringing my 3m bell 47 (bell-zilla) and some other scale helis. I'll leave it in the trailer if I'm going to have to fly it with all the 3d guys. I like watching the 3d guys but dont like flying the big heli at the same time. hope to see everyone there. Greg

Dr. Tim,
I also agree that IRCHA 2005 was a superb event and I am sure IRCHA 2006 will even be better, probably breaking the 500 registered pilot mark.

However and once more in agreement, IRCHA is "across the board" for all heli folks from the $300 whatever to the $15K turbine scale ship and each facet of the hobby should be allowed to "do their thing" with IRCHA help, guidance and participation.

Frequency management is always going to be an issue at any event of this size, however two or three frequencies set aside for the few hours required to get the scale flights out is more than reasonable and fair.

We will be at both the Nats and IRCHA this year and will be looking forward to seeing all of you.

If there will be reserved frequencies for FAI-F3C type flying (as in 2005) please publish those as soon as possible (so I can get the necessary crystal / module ).
