I purchased a used Ion from a friend and am reassembling it. Trying to rebuild a backwards tail I am having some problems locating the right tools I guess. Question: BTW it is an open tail gear box with what I think is the FAI tail. Not sure though.

How do you remove the tail bevel gears from the tail rotor shaft?

It looks like an allen wrench set screw that goes through the metal gear base but I cant find the right size. Looking at it closer, it goes through the shaft because you can see through it. If so, is it a pin? Does it thread through the hub of the gear and slide through the shaft? any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's a roll pin. What works best is a roll pin punch with a small arbor press. If you don't have an arbor press then the roll pin punch will suffice. Just make sure it's well supported when you're pressing/hammering out the pin. It shouldn't take a lot of force. The right tools make it easier.
