I think a 15 pinion with about 2400 to 2800 rpm is a very good start for 3D.

I have no personal experience but another good outrunner motor could be the 450TH. Many seem to like the Align 430L and other motors but Ive read stuff about how their motor cooling system only hides its inefficiency buy getting rid of the heat.

The required headspeed depends on the weight. If it’s light (<700g) anything above 2400 is good. For the heavier helicopters you will need more headspeed.

I have not tried a lot of options but the Align 430L with a 13t pinion works very well. This motor works well with all ESC’s (even the CC Phoenix-35 in governor mode).

Actually the Neu 1107/2y or 2.5y is more powerful and efficient than any of the outrunners and the Mega 16-15-3 is also a very good motor. Limiting your search to outrunners seams unnecessary for no good reason.

I use a Aurora 400DH outrunner with the included 9 tooth pinion. Spinning head around 2500 in fixed mode on CC35 with align 315 wood blades.

I have a 450TH 13T, I'm running between 2200-2500 depending on pitch. Full negative pitch gives me 2200, 0 pitch at 2500+.. using 315 wood blades. Good part.. it runs cool and likes running at higher revs.
The bad part.. it bogs at times.. most probably with my old batt packs.. I think running them at 3S 2100-2200 15C packs will do the trick.

I have a Mega 3 but saving it for my 3rd Trex. Just waiting for a few parts to arrive. I hope this Motor gives me more efficiency and cool running.. I hope higher headspeed as well.

I am intrigued with the 430L running over 2500+.. I have two Align motors and they usually run hot. Most efficient motor is 400SF 2800, though it has a lower headspeed, reasonable heat for Align motors. I also have a 420LF, but it runs hot. Is the 430L worth the money or I should simply check out more reasonable performing motors like AON?
