I was on the last 1/3 of my first tank of fuel on the Freya yesterday at a 30-40' hover when I heard a loud pop and the engine went dead.
I've never auto'd live before but I think that it was actually easier then on the sim. The heli landed nicely with no damage.

I pulled the OS70 out at the field and found a big hole in the top of the piston. Done for the day.

Anyway my question is this, Will a 95 tooth main and a 12 tooth pinion for a ratio of 7.91 work on the OS91 C Spec I plan on replacing the 70 with?

Thanks for the help,
John

One more question...
How difficult is it to replace the pinion on the clutch bell, does it just screw off? And while I'm at it I'm thinking of replaceing the clutch liner, any pointers for doing this such as what type of adhesive to use, and does the new liner need to be trued?
Thanks All.

I can't answer your gear ratio questions. But I can tell you that you'll need to order a new clutch bell with the proper pinion gear installed. I've never been able to remove and replace a Hirobo pinion gear.

Yes...that will do fine.
I use that ratio in my X-Spec with good results.

The pinion gear can be removed, it just screws off.....
just be careful not to damage the clutch-bell......the pinion will probable be very tight..but it is removable.

I was thinking of a Sceadu pinion (got 'em on the brain today!). The Freya pinion does indeed unscrew. HOWEVER, the reason I never bothered to go to the trouble is that the pinion alone costs nearly the same as the bell/pinion assembly (at least the 11T does). It just makes more sense to buy them together and get a brand new clutch bell and liner.

The pinion comes off pretty easily if you just heat the bell with a heat gun and then put a good rag over the pinion and turn with vise grips or channel locks. Comes right off without damage.
