Hi guys,
All of you gasser experts would you help me please telling what is the power difference and reliability between the two engines?

Can get two 230s for few $ but i need to decide if they will be up to the task, that will be lifting 20pounds of helicopter (cameraship)...

THANK YOU!

I have a G230 in a 15 pound scale Hughes from Robbe.
Is very reliable and enough power.
And have a G231 in a X-cell which has a little more power and likes more rpm's.
It's a little hard to compair the two, because one is a scale heli and the other a gasser trainer.
The G230 defenitely uses less fuel than the G231.
I am working on a Vario jet ranger III which will be close to 20 pounds,
and it's powered with a G230.
The only (un) reliable Zenoah's ore the ones with wrong carburators.
Eric.

mmm, I'm thinking the G23 is a 2 port and the 231 is a 4 port cylinder.

" G231 PUH Heli Engine boasts approximately 20% more horsepower than its predecessor, the G-23 Heli " as declared on the Zenoah web site.

It seems that there is not a single answer to the question. Im a nitro guy and yet it is difficult to me to make comparisions between the two type of engines..It is clear that the 231 is newer and mighter engine than the 230 (20% more power?), the question is that if the 230 with the proper exhaust will do the job. Surely i will be spinning 800mm mains and lifting 20 pounds or more.
I couldnt find rpm-power specs for the 230 since it is discontinued so far...According to Zenoah the 231 is 2.2Hp which matches the power (also stated by the manufacturer) of an OS 61 (2 pounds lighter).
For all what Ive read it seems that the 231 is much more powerful than a 61 nitro engine...but papers say both output the same HPs, of course at different RPM.
This is what confuses me a lot.

The 230 wil have the power to turn 800's, but, if you are adding 20lbs as useful load, then noway...Gross, then ok..
The only thing will be cooling, the g230 has lot less fin area, but so long as you keep the rpms up, with a decent cooling fan you should be ok... 8.1 seems to be the sweet spot for the 26(What I've been working on) Since the old 230 is speed critical, I would think 8.1 would do also, maybe 8.4 at the most..
What machine are you thinking of to use this engine?

BTW, the difference is the torque...The 231 has ports you can drive a Mack truck threw You can port the 230 to help with this...

Bill,
thank you for the reply...
The idea is swinging the 800mm to lift 20-25pounds TOTAL weight (heli plus camera stuff) with the 230. I got and xcell gasser which i'll modify as camera ship, will rebuild upper frames, some weight re-distribution and other changes, dont know if gearing is the stock (dont have it with me yet)..basically this is the idea.

You need to get with my friend from Ok. Xcellgasserman101 He is doing something like this with the SE
You are going to have to change the gear ratio.. The stock ratio of 6.4 is a little to tall for 800's...
