Well, ive had my TREX 4 days now and already crashed it!

I was messing around trying to get tail to stop wagging and got it to stop for a little bit and figured id do some FF and a Loop....

It helps to have it in idle 1 or idle 2 when doing loops.. they dont perform to well in normal...

Rex went in head first upside down.. broke the landing skid and took out 1 gearset in these crappy E-Flight (POS) servos... I just found out you cant buy replacement Gearsets for hte damn things so you gotta buy whole new servos.. they are $14, so it isnt too bad, but i decided to trash them and get some HS56's instead.

Oh well,, hopefully next time ill remember the idle up switch.

Replacement gearsets are available for the E-Flite S75's. Have 4 sets hanging above the workbench right now. Came from Horizon Hobby. $3 or $4 I think.

ha...

did something similar the other day, less the crash...

not sure how i avoided the crash (usually even the slightest thought of a crash sends my bird plummeting at the ground fast).... but i put her up and quickly went for my first flip of the day... good thing i had decent altitude 70ft+ i would estimate... was able to pull off the ugliest looking flip i've ever seen and not crash. i immediately after that went to idle mode and flew the rest of the flight like that.

normal mode flips aint pretty!

i know some folks around here switch into idle mode while in spool up to avoid the oversight like this during your flight.........

Good Day: crashed thx to dumb thumbs. Bad Day: crashed mechanical malfunction. Every Day: CRASH :)

I only started doing loops about 2 weeks ago, and last week I almost did the same thing. I was about to do a loop, but aborted it since my run-in wasn't good...only then did I notice I was in NORM mode.

To minmize making that mistake, I now always check my mode switch before doing a loop or roll or anything that will put my heli bottomside up. Good luck getting it back together!

I need to set it like i have my raptor.. Normal mode is 1700rpm and Idle 1 is 1950..

That way when i hear the HIGH headspeed, i know im in idle 1.

Oh well, gave me an excuse to upgrade :P

1 HS 81 for tail (HS 50 didnt break, but it sucks )
3 HS 56 for Collective to replace the ****ty Eflight ones
Fiberglass canopy, old one was slightly cracked.
Full metal head (Didnt break any of the head, but it isnt flying how i need it too.. the plastic head flexes too much)
Carbon Fin set (My horizontal one broke when building)
TP Charger (Needed another charger anyhow )

This is why I "trained" Myself to switch to Ide Up 1 before takeoff. Not that I can do flips yet anyway, but at least I should be able to avoid ONE stupid mistake of the many I am sure I'll make.

it is always a good idea to check your radio settings before going inverted!

I am a bit stupid so i probably had this problem 3 or 4 times. On a loop you sometimes can manage to recover normal position before you hit the ground. If you try just to get inverted, you are doomed. The moment you realise you headspeed is going down your headspeed is already too low for you to make half a flip and you hit the ground. The only thing you could do is be quick enough to think about hit the idle up switch however you generally just go into panic mode and are like: What whaaat stupid me!!!.

I didn't have this problem since a few monthes because i made sure it is impossible for me to go inverted when not in idle up. My secret? My normal throttle curves goes down to point 4 and 5 ( 0 50 80 75 70). When you try to go inverted, you generally give a little bit of pitch just before going inverted (in order not to loose height), you would expect you heli to get a little higher, when it goes down instead, you know you just escaped a stupid crash. 75 and 70 is enought to make sure the heli wont fall like a rock, it will just go down slowly or strive to climb instead of jumping up, you will also notice the headspeed drop wich will tell you something is going wrong.
