Hey guys. I bought a TREX on an online auction here in NZ. Got a good deal as it's all blinged and batteries seem good. Only thing is it's got the 2800 motor and 25 amp ESC. I am off to Hong Kong on Monday. I want to get a new motor and ESC to spook it up a bit. (it has a 1900 MAH battery) I am into 3D.
Whaddayah reckon I should get. I know plenty about nitro and stuff all about electric. I have a blade CP but selling that. Is the telebee gyro any good or should I ditch that for a 240 or 401?
It has gws servo's and I thought I'd whack some HS 56hb's on it and something fast on the tail.

Thanks in advance for any help.
cheers

also what does the three groups of numbers mean when looking at motors? ie something like 26/28/2 (those may not represent anything...I just plucked 'em out of my head)
Cheers

The 3 numbers relate to rotor diameter, length and number of winds. More important is the KV number ( rpm per volt)
Get a motor that has 300 Watts and a KV around 3500 and you can't go wrong. I like the align motors, had good success there.

The Telebee is ok to start out

but I'd use a 240/401 since you are a 3D'r

Get the following:

Gyro:

GY401 (a must have, don't settle for less)

Collective Servos:

Hitec HS56 on all three (Highly recommended)

Tail Servo:

I'm sticking with my HS50 it's the fastest in the sub micro in the market, but some say it doesn't hold well. I'm no 3D flier anyways.. yet.. So you if you have enough dough you can go digital 9650 as some people are saying or you can go with 9654.

Brushless ESC:

CastleCreation 35amp
Sbec 5V (needed if you want to run 4S)
or if you have enough dough to shed get the Kontronix Jazz 40 (no need to buy a separate Sbec system)

Motor:

I'm looking into harnessing the power of Just Go Fly motors, they are reasonably priced, light and powerful. You can use 450TH motor or their 400DH

Other great motors:
Mega 16/15/3
AON motors
Lehner being most expensive

Buy pinion gears: 8T, 9T, 10T, 12T, 14T so you can experiment. Your kit should come with (2) 11T, 13T, 15T

Battery:

Get a Align's latest battery having a higher discharge rating, askt the shop owner if it will fit the Trex. I have not tried them yet though.

It is safe to get 2100 mahs 3S packs rated at least 12C discharge.

the perfect setup,, get the 450 f with 10 toothe pinion from just go fly, use the align 35 speed controller, i had three castel creations and they all had glitch problems, use the hitec 56 servos, and for the tail use the new futaba mini digital servo i thinck its 9650 for about 60 bucks, and if you use futaba tx the new pcm mini rx. the battery , well you could use the 2100 3 cell tt or the new 2100 from align both are the same, i thinck it comes from the same factory but i dont thinck align wants you to know, its cheaper.
