There is a thread in the Main Discussion about smoke generation. From this a comment has come up that a gasser exhaust gets hotter than a nitro engines, so I thought I'd ask the question here.

Thing is on my gasser, Alouette with G231 the exhaust doesn't seem to get anything like as hot as my nitro exhausts. By that I mean that having landed, after a couple of minutes I can quite happily touch the exhaust whilst one of me nitro one would still be very uncomfortable, to the finger!

Right, wrong or, am I possibly running the engine too rich?

I have wondered too!

Both of my heli engine types get so hot that a blister would soon appear if I touched ether's muffler or the exhaust system at any point. So Hot is Hot and I can't tell the difference above say the temp of the surface of the sun. But then both of my teenagers tell me I must have it bad being this old and my last Dr's visit he said I should try cutting back on my medication's, Well anyhow I find both are very hot.
Does anyone have real temps to compare to, say an OS 50 to say a Hanson 260 ? So many variables

I'll be another one with a cool exhaust then. My Zimmerman pipe is definitely only warm to the touch after about 2-3 minutes. Part of it may be the thin stainless muffler raditates heat away quickly, the other part I'm sure is the cool british weather

When running, I would definitely not want to touch any part of the pipe though - I've had a couple of painful reminders of how hot that gets in the past!

Zimmermann

For Gas helis the Zimmermann systems prooven to be the best
Sine they made from Stainless steel, this material is perfect when comes to a heating - cooling interaction.

Dont forget the noise issue is also important
