Yup... built from parts procured from and for:
  • Walkera #35 Body
  • Various spare TRex parts
  • Numerous Shogun and Zoom replacements
  • X400 Upgrades

Waiting for a washout holder and an esc and it'll be flyable. Should be interesting....

So did you name it????
Sounds like: The new Shorexera X435....

It looks like it should be a sweet flying little "Frankenstein".....
Let us know how it goes..... and good luck with it.....

One word of caution.... I tried an MPI on my tail and it failed very quickly... luckily it was just as I was landing and was about to set it down just prior to it quiting completly, so keep a very close eye on that...

I'm calling it a POC at the moment. Stupid tail is driving me nuts. Its almost like my Align gyro has gone bad.

Swapped out the MX-52 for a HS-50... no change so I ruled that out as a possible cause. I've been lucky with the maxxprod servo but being that's still fairly new figured I'd try.

Few more days, few more tweaks, and it should be good to go. Gonna try the JR clone walkera gyro next. If that doesn't work I'll consider temporarily pulling my 401 off the Rexy just to see what happens.

Now here's some irony. The Walkera gyro locked on first try with no problems whatsoever. I did notice that its in "reverse" mode. Afterwards I took a peek at my Align one and sure enough, it wasn't in reverse so another dumb thumbs one solved.

Now I've got the dreaded wobble. Need to try a couple different things. Tachometer won't be here for a few more days, but its headspeed "sounds" sufficient. I'd venture to say its around 1800 rpm.

The feathering shaft might be slightly bent. I had to yank on it a couple times pulling the head on and off during assembly.

I wonder if the slop caused by these cheaper servos could be causing it. I'll dismiss that for now.

So I'm off to replace a feathering shaft, verify headspeed, etc, etc.

Its gonna turn out nice in the end. Very responsive, just gotta get the final kinks worked out.

Wobble.....
I think that you are in the right direction... the wobble usually is caused by lack of head speed which causes a lead lag problem.... check your blade weights and c/g very closely...... it is just amazing what a piece of trim tape can do on a mchine this size....
Good Luck and good catch on the gyro.....

Thanks Stan. I'll pick things back up some time during the week. Gonna go out and fly my TRex for a bit.

Whole reason why I got into this "upgrade" scheme was because I ran out of things to tinker with on the TRex. That's not to say its completely blinged, its not, but once things get setup right, the little ship just keeps on going like the Energizer bunny.

Trying to get this one to that point.... Don't know what I'll do then

Its been a fast week I guess... lol... couldn't leave it alone today.

Come to find out, I'd put a 10T pinion on the 400LF. A little math, and the obvious wobble, point out the less than ideal headspeed.

It took some spacer fashioning but I was able to get an Align 11T mounted and still clear the belt. Just had her out in the Garage and the wobble was gone for 8 of a 10 minute flight.

I have a 13T on order. Hopefully I'll be able to fashion it on the same way as the 11T... fingers crossed... haven't heard of many folks running a 13T pinion on a shogun frame.... add the belt entry and its a really tight fit.

Might have to scrap the 400LF and go with a JGF. We'll see. Headspeed with a 13T should be sweet if it'll fit.

I can't wait to get it outside.

Its behaving quite well at this point. Went back to my Align gyro (with it properly reversed), left the HS50 in, and swapped out the CF boom for a blue aluminum one I had lying around.

I got an 11 tooth Align pinion on it but had to cut out a special spacer to ensure it had ample clearance with the belt drive.

Sorry for the lack of quality flight pictures. My 13 year old was helping out and rightly so a bit nervous in the confined space.

I think I'm gonna leave the Align canopy on it. It looks too cool to take off. Will probably go with the fiberglass one with some custom decals / paint before too long since I took the time to get it all lined up.

"Winning"!!!!
Well it looks as if you are winning..... but as far as the picture quality goes, next time just let your 13 year old take them for you !!!!!
It is really looking good, and glad to hear that you have the wobble and the gyro problems resolved.....
Nice Job!!!!!

HAve a great Thanksgiving......
