Rich,

The engine should be smooth. If the bearings are bad, it will feel gritty as it turns over.

The counter shaft almost always has to have the flat ground farther down to get gear on all the way and the up and down play out of it. Double check the top bearing on the counter shaft and the counter shaft itself where the bearing runs for signs of wear. The top bearing on the counter shaft takes almost all the load of the transmission and is usually the first to fail, but after LOTS of flying time.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

Steve, isn't the slot on the shaft that comes with the constant tail drive longer than the slot on the old stock shaft ??

Jim,

I believe you are right...don't remember having to grind that flat longer.

Rich L,

Most definitly, IMHO the most common cause of radio glitches is rear engine bearings going bad.

just another update,i pulled the engine apart and did find the rear bearing feels gritty and notchy when turning with just light finger pressure.
i also found one of the clutch housing bearings is very, very bad,as you spin the clutch you can hear it and feel it.
i ordered both bearings for the engine and both for the clutch housing.
i will let everyone know how it turns out.

The clutch bearings can be eliminated as an interference source because they don't spin in flight.

well i finally got the glitching problem taken care of,unfortunately the engine stalled on the second flip when i was going to bring it back to see if it running lean or rich.
i tried to do an auto but was too low and the skids dug into the snow and flipped it over.
took a good chunk out of one the mainblades, tailblades,tt,tailboom,my purple tailslider, and that was just a quick visual!
i take it must have been running too lean to flame out like that?
these are the things i replaced or fixed.(not sure which one cured it)
1)crack about an inch long in the right lower frame(had it tig welded)
2)small crack in the left lower frame at one of the holes where the skids attach(replaced it)
3)notchy rear engine bearing(replaced both bearings)
4)worn out sleeve on my antirotation bracket(made a new sleeve)
5)replaced lower mast bearing, both bearings on the countershaft
oh well these things happen, just going to enjoy the holidays and fix it up again!

man, Rich, that's too bad !!, but don't let it get you down, 3 years ago I crashed 3 times in like 8 or 9 flights so I know how it feels, another time I had my heli fall over on a set of new $80 blades cracking the trailing edge on one of them, those blades had 4 flights on them,,, and my friend once crashed 2 of his helis in 10 minutes (Raptor 30 & JR Vergo 60)...
