A few months ago I upgraded my Shogun to the CF tail boom and Microheli CNC tail gear box for the CF boom. I'm awaiting the arrival of my Hubdave CF frame and belt drive and plan on switching back to the stock alloy tail boom due to vibrations that many others have blamed on CF tail booms.
Just how much smaller is the stock alloy boom when compared to the CF booms? Will I still be able to use the Microheli tail gear box (again, designed for CF booms) with a stock alloy boom? Does anybody have any suggestions to make the tail gear box work with the stock boom? Are there any booms out there the same diameter as the CF boom that will work with the Hubdave belt drive?

The CF boom is just slightly larger diameter than the stock aluminum one. A wrap of sticktape around the aluminum boom should take up the space with the MH gearbox (use double sided sticky tape if you want it to be very firmly held).

With the belt drive you no longer need to worry about the internal diameter of the boom being a good fit for the bearings on the drive shaft. I found arrow shafts make a good alternative boom. I've use Easton XX75 sucessfully. They're much stiffer and stronger than the standard aluminum boom (and you get 2 booms per arrow if you cut right). I dont have the MH gearbox, but the measurements are pretty close to those of the CF boom.

Thanks for the arrow "tip" (no pun intended of course).
I'm a little confused though, the Easton XX75 arrows seem to include another number, ie, 1416, 1516, 2013, 2116, etc. Which XX75 arrows do you use?

They say 2219 on them.

I bought them by taking my digital calipers to GI Joes and measuring different arrows until I found one with the right diameter! They're 8.75mm O/D so far as I can tell.
