I'm just asking because I've heard good things about their tail case on the Hornet 2 from experienced fliers.

I don't mind a shaft drive on these micros, as long as

1) the gears hold up for a decent number of flights and their wear and tear is obvious so they end up being replaced proactively on the ground instead of failing in-flight.

2) the little gears are easy to replace (should be a 5-10 minute job), inexpensive ($5-$7 max sounds right for a set)

Thoughts?

It sure looks nice for $45. That's a small price to pay if it makes the tail on an otherwise good machine work well.

That plastic stock tail box was a piece of junk and was a disaster waiting to happen...

The main problem was the stock gear box twisting and when it twists it will strip the gears... I have the microheli tail and it’s tough as nails. I have made several tail strikes with no worries
I no longer worry about the tail box failing it was worth the 45 bucks !!

And it sure looks solid and pretty..

I will change it once the beltdrive comes out

Johnny,

I am not sure if those two issues are related to the tail gear box

1. The gear can hold up or not is due to the gears themselves and since these are steel gear, they should last much longer than the plastic gears. That's for sure.

2. The gears can be removed or assembled fast or not depends on the set up of the gear as well but one thing MicroHeli tail gear box offers is they are open type gear box so you just need to unscrews the three bolts on the side and you can access right to the gears, unlike the close type plastic gear box. This will be a real advantage.

Their gear boxes are nice not only on the Hornet but on the Shogun and TREX as well. I got all of them and I like them very much.
