I bought a slightly used T-Rex 450X with all sorts of upgrades. But I'm wondering if mine is sporting the stretch kit. the tail boom is alumninum (gold anodized), and is about 348mm. Can anyone tell me if this is the "stretched" version? Is the stretched version just an upgrade to the XL parts?

I'm assuming the advantage to the stretch is primarily having to feed less power to the tail rotor. Is this correct?

Thanks for any info.

If it's 348mm it's the stretched boom (I think they're actually 347mm). Also, I don't think any of the shorter booms were gold in colour.
The longer boom also allows you to run the 335mm blades, which many people prefer over the shorter ones.

Kevin,

Thanks much for the quick reply. I currently have the Align carbon blades (black blades with yellow graphics on top - looks like a plastic covering over hollow chambers on bottom). They measure about 313mm from tip to mounting hole . It seems like I'm reading that people prefer the 335 woodies.

Two questions:
- Are the 335 woodies better?
- How are they measured - tip to mounting hole?

Thanks again.

RC

P.S. Just re-measured my carbons. They come out to 325mm from root to tip (so I'm guessing that's how they're measured). Are the 335 woodies still worth it over these?

I think Align measures their blades tip to root, while it seems everyone else measures theirs from mounting hole to tip.

I've never tried the Align carbon blades so can't comment on them compared to the 335mm woodies. I do prefer the 335mm woodies to the 315mm woodies though. More power and, to me, seems like faster cyclic.

The 325 carbons are the 335 carbons... Its just like kevin said, Align measures funny, so it comes out to 335, anyone else who measures the same blades gets 325... The original blades are actually 305mm hole to tip.. align says they are 315's... weird huh...
I have heard that the carbons are better for aerobatics and such, woodies are better for sport flying, because of their increased flexibility and thus better coning angle for improved stability in a hover...

But Honey, I can't live with just stock.....
