Been running my OS 50 Hyper in for 6-7 tanks now and I know you should load it too much during run-in so just been hovering/slow figure 8's, but couldn't resist a slight throttle punch upto about 20ft or so - wow is the only comment I can think of. This things is really going to move when run-in fully.

I have a couple of tuning questions which I'm hoping you can help with, I'm 20% Magnum and TT muffler. My main needle is around 1.5 turns out and the idle is just a fraction on the lean side of centre factory setting.

1) When I try the pinch test, the engine runs for 2-3 seconds then begins to speed up a lot and continues speeding up for a good number of seconds before dying?

2) The engine starts well from cold, but not when warm (it's a real pig). When starting from cold, she starts and idles quite quickly but as it warms up on the ground eventually the rpm drops and she will die, then very hard to start cos of wet plug.?

3) She will bog a bit when going through 1/3rd throttle, but hovers great and is really nice to move around slowly, but then if I land and return to idle the rpm will reduce and the engine will eventually die?

I think all these things point towards a rich idle mixture, but how far do you guys lean the low needle? We did try one tank with the main reduced to 1 turn, this helped but only a very small amount.

Please can you help,

David

Doesn't sound like anything abnormal is going on with your engine especially during break in. My Hyper (MP2, 30% YP) setup runs rich but smooth with good power after several gallons of fuel. My low speed is set maybe a touch towards the rich side and the main is somewhere near 1.5 turns open although I have not checked it in quite some time to see where it is exactly. When the engine is cold it is near the verge of wanting to die at idle but I just increase the throttle a bit and as soon as it warms up it idles fine. During spool up (1/3 throttle or so) my engine is rich (rpm hesitates a bit) but that is about where you want it. In the hover and forward flight the engine four-cycles on the pipe (not a steady 2-cylce constant tone) but that is the characteristic of the MP2 and it runs smooth. It took 3 gallons or so before my Hyper came alive.

I think if you compare your fuel and pipe configuration, 30% to my 20% would mean slightly richer settings for you over mine, and the low back pressure of the MP2 compared to the stock TT higher back pressure again would suggest further richen of your settings over mine.

You say your idle is just slightly on the rich side, my engines idles high when cold but then tries to die when warm, and if it does die it then won't start again, without a hole heap of work.

Lean it !

You should try 30% magnum. It's a blast.
