sorry, I forgot to post this back when it happened,,,

about 2 weeks ago a 19 YO kid here (just some 10 miles from my home town) pulled a very very stupid stunt and he accidentally killed himself ("accidentally" if that is how you want to say it),,, this was one of those "well he jumped off the bridge so I did too" things,,, after watching the TV show JackAss this 19 YO kid jumped out of a car that was going 30 MPH, the police know it was 30 MPH because the cruse control was used and it was set at 30,,, the passengers in the car told the police that the kid that died was driving the car and he set the cruse control to 30 and he then jumped out of the car, the passengers told the police he saw this stunt on the TV show, so he thought he could do it too (as the kid jumped out of the car the front seat passenger then grabbed the steering wheel),,, poor kid, he may have not learned anything but I bet his friends sure did..

Normally cruise controls usually cannot be set at such a low speed. They usually engage at 45mph or higher.

The kid is dead because he was stupid. 19 is plenty old enough to know better. Trying to blame the show for it is pretty funny. Next time I get a ticket, I'm going to blame it on Nascar.

Jackass is a stupid show for stupid people. It makes the folks on Jerry Springer look good. Anyone who would do something they saw on the show is probably better off not breeding anyway. Sad to say, but sometimes a little chlorine in the gene pool is necessary. I feel for his parents, both at the loss of their child, and the fact that now the world knows their kid was that stupid. Wonder if any drugs or alcohol might have been involved?? I'll bet his last words to his buddy was, "Hold my beer and watch this"

thats the problem theses days,
many of Americas society today are all to willing to pass the blame off on others, (IE its the TV shows fault) when in actuallity its that person who made a poor decision... I didnt see the tv show open the door and push him out....sad, but totally preventable...

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

I have to agree. Nobody these days want to own up to their own stupidity. When i was 19 I did some amazingly stupid things. Possibly some of them could have got me killed. There are plenty of other people who have jumped out of cars at 30mph and not been killed. Some have been thrown from cars at greater speeds and not been killed. That does not diminish the fact that jumping out of a perfectly good car is stupid. If you go and get yourself killed doing it then it was your own damn fault. The guys on Jackass are just that. Jackasses. They do the show because people enjoy dumb entertainment and they get paid for it. I believe there is a disclaimer at the start of each show. People need to start having ownership of themselves. Take responsibility for your own actions. I'm sure there will be a lawsuit over the show, but it's not as if Johnny Knoxville pushed him out of the car.

think about this, how many of us have watched shows with crazy and stupid things done, have we all gone out and done the same thing we saw?? NO.....if we all did then there would be no one left on this planet except those without tv and those with higher intelligence. Think about it before you burb it out Paul the Froggy.

Looks like I am behind the times with Cruise Controls. My 1984 Honda would not engage below 45 MPH and my newer Honda is the same way. How could the police tell it was set at 30 MPH??

The kid was obviously a fool for attempting such a dangerous act and he paid dearly for his stupidity. He was old enough to be responsible for his own actions and responsibility is something many have a problem accepting these days prefering to blame others instead of accepting the fact that they, and nobody else, are really responsible.

Have you ever noticed the small print disclaimers at the bottom of the screen in some commercials "Professional Driver on a closed course - do not try this at home"? Only the foolish try these stunts and after they go horribly wrong the Attorneys step in to place the blame and responsibility on others with deeper pockets.

It is quite possible that the honda will only engage at 45mph because the vehicle is basically asian in origin. My Ford Explorer SuperTrac will engage at 45kph which is about 25mph. Now thinking along this line..........I surmise that you can figure the rest out. Who was it that said, why would somebody want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. So along the same line of thinking, why would anybody want to jump out of a perfectly good automobile?

I lost my infamous tag line.

This is like the 'how many forum users does it take to change a lightbulb' thing in jokes and riddles. But we need to add:

9 to obsess over and compare the relative minimum cruise control speeds of their cars.
