Sky Technology Quark Universal 33A

After having endless problems with another brand of ESC; I decided I was going with a different esc this time. I did about a month of research on most of the esc's out there. I finally found the Quark universal. This was the one for me. The price was right at $80 bucks USD. It was time to order everything to build my Trex. They also make 22amp up to 150amp esc's.

Test setup:

T-REX XL CDE
Tanic 3s-2220
GY240
3 HS-56's swash
2 HS-50's tail
Himax 2815-3000kv
Polks Seeker 6 rx
Hitec Eclipse7 tx
S&T Quark Universal 33A, in heli mode 1

Down to business

This is a great ESC to use with pretty much anything!

Comes with the 3.5mm bullet connectors with heat shink, and a good manual because you will need it.

Programing & Specifications

33amps cont, 50 amps surge
Rated 4 servos with 3 cell lithium polymer
5 cell lithium capable in Opto mode
Smart linear 3amp BEC, 3 Amps
Noise filter
Auto timing advance
High temp cutt-off
Constant RPM govenor
heat sink

Turbo mode
Torque settings
Neutral Range
race and safety
battery type with current selection
Motor types
Brake types & ABS settings
Voltage cutt-offs
Neutral & throttle positions
Dynamic & slow flight govenor settings

Modes For heli:

Mode 1 is normal no govenor, it is different from the Airplane mode. It has a little slower throttle increase from stop to full throttle then just
automatically full power at once like the airplane mode. It works out well for heli's if you don't want to use the govenor modes. It is the mode I'am currently using.

Mode 2 is for govenor of one rpm. I'd like to mention this ESC is fully programable for throttle/neutral stick throw. Theres really no need for it becuase your transmitter has its own 5 point settings anyway. I guess it would be good for a CAR or when using a simpler Transmitter.

Mode 3 is for govenor of two rpms. Selecting this mode with let you use 2 rpms through govenor.

The programing is really going to take a long time at first. You have to program the esc through the Transmitter by pressing the program button and using the throttle stick. Once you've gone through the programming 3 or 4 times you'll be able to do it well. There are so many options in the programing that you'll have to try different settings after each flight and find whats best for you. I wish the esc had a USB dongle to program it through your PC. That would be so great. It's a small price to pay for quality though.

This is the main reason for using this esc from all the others, plus the price.. It has a dual Linear BEC 3amps plus the noise filter setting.

I've only had about 5 flights on this thing so far. The esc doesn't heat up at all with the 5 servos and 3cell lipo I'am running. Hitec's micro servos do not pull many amps; you could probably run 6 servos on this baby with a 3 cell. I'm not kidding people, after a full flight the esc heat sink was just warm to the touch; guessing about 100F degrees. The temp outside here is in the 90's. I've had NO glitching or motorcut-outs yet. This ESC is great, A big change from the others.

When I get to try out the govenor modes I will post a reply; I'm still experimenting with the settings. And I'm new to this govenor stuff.

PM me your email address if you would like me to send you the manual.

The company is pretty new, and only has one distributor in the USA and i've only found one in japan.

I've been running the Quark 33s controllers since April and they've been working great. No problems at all. The programming is fairly easy with the button and lights. Their website works http://www.sky-technology.net

Yes, you only can program everything on the esc when it is in AIR or CAR mode.

Then restart and do the programing for the mode selection after your done doing all the other settings.

I noticed that hovering around the esc is warmer then flying normal. The heat sink works really well to cool the esc when the heli is moving.
Try lipo high mode. You have the 33a or 22a?

I ordered one yesterday. I am still looking for a speed control that will work in governor mode without making the tail wag. Maybe this will be the one...

There is 2. Got the idea from hiroboEric. It works out well, I've had two crashes so far and no gears stripped. By using 2 HS50s you still get the same speed but the torque is a little more, plus its twice as strong having the two linked. He swares by it. I had them extra lying around so I tried it.

If your having problems you might want to look into the Multiplex Mini Polo Digi 4 servo, if your using a GY401. It has lots of torque and is very fast.

sorry, don't want to hickack my own thread...heh

Cheers

The company is working on a instructional video, but its not out. I'm sorry i can't help yah yet. I haven't got to play with the govenor modes yet. We need a more experienced person that uses the govenor modes. Erich is the only one that i know has the controler and flys 3D well....

Mine arrived today! I had the manual already thanks to Tmaster. Looks good but I need to study more now that I have it to hand. Any further word on the video? I sure hope the governor mode works and does not cause tail wag as that is what I would like to use. Testing of the Quark starts next Monday as this weekend I am flying using my old reliable Align35amp ESC in non-governor mode

I run my Quark33s in "AIR" mode.
Lipo Low
Normal Motor type
No Brake

In the Advance menu I leave everything defaulted. You can see the blue-highlighted item in the manual.
