Does it matter what kind of wire is used for antenna replacement?

I accidentally stepped on my antenna wire and broke off about 6 inches. Can it be soldered back on?

Yes, it can be soldered back. If you want to replace it, most of the hobby shops stock replacements, or you could just use some 26 ga. stranded wire. JR antennas are on meter long. Not shure about Futaba.

The government cannot give you anything without first taking it from someone else.

Why fix it?

That is the perfect opportunity to install a revolution whip antenna on it instead. Get rid of the ugly wire coming out of the machine and replaced it with a whip antenna concealed inside the canopy.

You need to cut it to 6 inches to install the whip, so 1/2 the install is done for you.

I am a firm believer in not taking chances. There are numerous posts that claim problems with whip antennas. Some of the problems stem from the connections, some from the antenna itself. Either way, I am new and inexperienced as to what is a legitimate problem so I don’t see the need to take a chance. Ugly? Heck, to me this antenna is out of sight. After all I didn’t see it when I stepped on it and broke it.

Actuallly, I haven’t flown with my canopy yet. I am still in the setting up stages, trying different things that require turning on and off the receiver and pushing the buttons on the CoPilot receiver.

Another reason to change it....

Well you stepped on it and broke it. If it wasn't there then it won't get in your way and happen again. Ugly is a term/figure of speech. Personally I don't like it hanging from my heli, some people like it. On the contrary. I like them on my aircraft (planes) as they look like antenna and fit in, like going from ther canopy to the top of the rudder.

Going back to helis yes you are new to the hobby and are still wary of things, and I'll tell you this. You WILL lose some range with the whip antenna, but not enough to cause an issue. With a wire antenna your range can be as far as 4 miles, so, even if you lost 1/2 that at 2 miles its still plenty enough to fly the heli.

Also, ALOT of people here use whip antennas especially on gassers. Gets it out of the way and the antenna wire doesn't pass by engine ignition noise which you should be concerned about by the way. Ask around here and you will see that many people use them and don't have issues.

The ultimate decision is yours, but I'm here helping out giving you the experience and ideas to fix your problem. The way I see it a $10 whip antenna gets two birds in one stone as they say....it fixes the broken wire, and get the antenna out of the way so you don't run over it again.
You are not taking chances if you go that route, but you need to figure that out for yourself so ask around as if you do and something happens, you are going to blame it on my advice!!

And please feel free to let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. What I said above is not a lecture, only information so please don't take it the wrong way like I'm forcing you to do something, ok?

Happy flying!

LOL like anyone could ever force me to do something I didn’t want to do.

I have already read plenty. As a newbie or even someone with experience it is always difficult to determine if someone is bashing a product because of something they did wrong or something that is really related to the quality of a product. Everyone has an opinion.

Raja, so PM me with a recommendation that you know doesn’t have issues on that whip antenna. Having it inside the canopy is cool I take it? I need your address anyway, so I can send that AXI motor to you for generating purposes. I am tired of running out of juice after an hour or so.
