It appears that Thunder Power has a 2000mAh square pack and a long 2100mAh pack. My hobby shop was trying to sell me on the 2000 pack as the pack all the TRex guys want, because of its shape. I don't get it. Which is the better TP battery for the TRex and why.

I think the 2100mah packs fit better, they actually fit in the frame since they're so narrow.

I would say go with the new TP 2100mah Pro Lites (have balance connectors, the old 2100's don't) but others may disagree.

I run the new 2100 prolites and they fit great.
Nice snug fit between the frames.

12-13mins with Align 420LF 13 tooth pinion.
Temp approx 100-110F.

Mix of pretty aggressive flying and slow hovering patterns.

t.p.

I like the t.p. 2000 lite just because is 25 grams lighter than the 2100 and the discharge rate is a little better

i have the 2100 and i think its a good battery. i get about 12-13 min flight times.
battery gets warm but not really hot. i have an aon motor with cc 35. i have a question about cell balancing. my 2100 pack has that connector on it but how do i go about balancing it? do use that connector and use my triton or astro flight 109? and also when do i do it?

The TP 2100 Pro Lites have a higher discharge rating than the 2000 Pro Lites.
You must be thinking of the Gen 2 2100 packs.

My local heli experts around here tell me that the TP 2000 balances better than the TP 2100 because of its shape, but I wouldn't know since I don't have my T-Rex built yet.

i am just trying to break in the new cells. i charged the 2100 prolite and then discharged it and it took out 2250 mah? is that normal i thought at most it would only take out 2100.

Discharging lipo's = bad, these guys would much rather be just topped off repeatedly.

To break in the battery, program your charger to perform a 1C disharge, followed by a 30 minute cooldown, followed by a 1C charge. Perform this cycle 3 times and your pack is completely broken in !

A full discharge down to 3 volts. The cycling is not really required, but a 1C cycling will not harm your batteries and will give you a good indication as to the health of the cells. I perform this test whenever I get a new pack and have found a few bad packs when purchased (a bad pack will provide less than 95% of total capacity when this test is run .... a new pack SHOULD give a number that is very close to the stated capacity).

I kinda like the discharge feature on the astro 109,,, after flying, when I get home, I finish discharging the pack, and know what capacity I had left ,,The graph that comes with the charger shows about 1.25 amp discharge for lup to 6 ce..s. BUT I'm not sure what they are talking about with the drop off at 12 cells,,,perhaps it will discharge larger packs than it will charge,,, the manual says it will only charge up to 9 cells. I really doubt that any motor uses this LITTLE bit of current, but,,,Other than needing either a GOOD 12 volt battery, OR a 12 amp ac to dc converter,,,,It is a nice charger..
