Wow, time flies when you're having fun, can barely keep my eyes open but wanted to post pics before bed......Looks like AUW including Apogee 1570 3-cell Lipo is about 25oz/700g. I think it'll fly fine at that weight. Off to Grave's R/C tomorrow to pick up an ESC that can handle 4 servos, gyro, etc without the need for a separate BEC, as space is limited on this one. Got everything mocked up, took too much material off the plastic tailboom, will be more careful with the 2nd fuselage. A little balsa filler to mould the Shogun tail boom into the plastic, some paint and it will dissapear. I shortened the Shogun boom about 3/4". MAYBE...MAYBE some flight testing tomorrow!!!! Must-get-some-sleep.......

Oh....and I'll be repainting it when it's done, to hide the Shogun tail boom and get rid of the "plasticky" finish. Maybe like this, easier to see also ........... http://www.airliners.net/open.file?...UQtODMgKE=Whfg%

Remember when flying inverted that down is up and up is EXPENSIVE!

Hovered 2 battery packs worth in the dark...it's a bit squirelly to fly, may be the weight. Last flight I heard an odd noise...sounded like a motor seizing-sort of...well, I think I found out why so many people have killed a Himax 2025 on their Shogun- I think mine's toast. It was so hot you couldn't hold your finger on the pinion. Oh well, I just ordered a DH400 from justgofly; seems to be the way to go on the Shogun. I will try to get some hovering pics tomorrow, I think I have a little life left on the Himax!

It flew today!!! Not just hovered....but forward flight. Flies like a Shogun but more stable, and less power LOL so you have to think ahead when descending. I only flew for a few minutes, because the Himax is dying, and it was getting dark, so the olive drab color turns into an unreadable silhouette real quick. Need to turn down the gyro gain just a tad, throttle curve is something like 0-80-90-100-100, and pitch curve, well, I'm not sure I need to check...but all conventional wisdom on the pitch curve goes out the window with the extra weight..I just tweaked it until it felt "right" I'm ordering another body to cut out cleaner (heck for $20 I'll get two more) and repaint and detail. I will post results of the justgofly 400DH when it arrives. Here's a quick pic, will post more later on!! http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/atta...chmentid=612485

Brad Bird I a Have the solution to you power plant problems, you need to invest in the only 400 size motor that has enough balls to lift that heavy scale body......YOU NEED A MEGA MOTOR. This motor will make you heli sing with power, I do also suggest you change you throttle curve from linier to 0 - 25 - 75 - 100. This will get your head speed nice and high prior to take off! I use it in my huey and she fly’s GREAT! By the way, use the T-rex 11 tooth pinion with set screw. If you use a larger pinion the mesh on the main gear won't be very effective! Hope this helps you!

That dosent look like a real Kiowa OH-58D
The OH-58D is 4 bladed. Delta models have the MMS and seeing this one has the advance Jammer on it its not one of the earlier AHIPS which were OH-58 A/C conversions to D Models.

That picture is of my Shogun hovering within 20 feet of the camera. I played a prank on the guys I fly with at that same field-near an airport- told them a military heli swooped in and got on the loudspeaker and said it was restricted airspace and I couldn't fly there. Lots of laughs about that one!!! Here's some more pics, managed some forward flight but it was getting too dark to see.

Hi

Any news concerning the mini Kiowa?

I also do have one of these little 1/18 models but it is still in the original version without any conversion yet.

I am still looking for the right mechanic.

regards

Mirco

Kiowa W T-rex Mechs

Hey Guys,
I picked up a 1/18 Kiowa from Toys R Us. They are 19.99. I guess they are going to finally carry the whole fleet of 1/18th. I was looking for the Blackhawk, but no Joy. I figured I am going to destroy my 600.00 T-Rex mechs to fit it in a 20 dollar fus.... But if it works :-)
Keep you all posted!
Thanks,
Robb
