How does JR new "ring series" G500T hold up to the GY240 or GY401? Also, what is "ring" feature they are talking about and how does it work? Thanks! All advice is appreciated!

Mikel

For a micro heli by the way.

JR G500T W/T-rex 450X

I can't tell you how they compare But I can tell you that I could not want easier to use or more accurate in holding power it is very good arrangement. Do a search on Ring gyro and you will be reading for hours. I couldn't be happier. In fact I have one on my Bergen Intrepid W/ G260 and it does it's job without a flaw. Thanks for the air time Mike Lewis. High in the mountians of Northeastern Arizona. That is a place not a condition

Try a quick search. There are quite a few opinions on this.

My friend has flown them all. Loves the 500T's. Personally you'll have to pry the 401's and 601's from my cold dead hands.

Lots say they are slightly better than the 401. The 240 would be at the bottom of this pile.

The ring is just different sensing technology.

I'd probably line em up like this. GY601, CSM560, 500T&401, 240.

Can't go wrong with any of the 'better' offerings. Someone else will have to speak for the junk.

I've had good luck with the 401's, 502's, and 601's, They are easy to setup and have adjustable gain from the transmitter, the 240 doesn't. You get more bell and wistles as you move up the line. I'm sure the JR is comparible. If your loyal to a certain brand, you can't go wrong with either.

I have four that I am using, all work as expected hold well in backwards flight. Setup is no problem, follow the instructions, use a high end servo, like the 8700 recomended. You can adjust the end points on the gyro itself, it has a switch if you want to use a lesser servo. Be watchful if you use the tape that is supplied to hold gyro. Others have tried flying my heli, people that use 401's and could find no faults. Chris

Futaba tape always worked fine for me

I now use 3M double sided tape.Used fro body side mouldings on automobiles.Avail at your local paint and body shop supply, auto part stores,Even seen it in Wal-Mart.In the automotive section.

Good Luck Corey I PAY-PAL

I have been using the jr 5000 tape #jrpa048 does not separate like the other tapes. You could do a search here, many ideas on the best tape, seems the tapes c-dog uses are high on the list. Chris

>>I'd probably line em up like this. GY601, CSM560, 500T&401, 240.<<

The statement above is definitely not right. I personaly have tried all the range of gyros above and below is what I would put the order to be: GY601, JR500T, CSM560/401.

Nothingcan beat 601 right now. with the 760us respons, the gyro gain can be turned up quite high since the servo itself has the resolution to update incoming information.

Surprisingly, 500T beats the hell out of 560. In my 3 months of testing 560 and 500T, I found out that 500T is way more consistent in performance.

I put 560 and 401 in the same range is because with 560 can get good HH setup but sucky piro consistency. what's the point on having piezo technology that is susceptible to vibration and you have to spent time tweaking the internal parameters to get powerfull HH lock up which are good for backward and sideway (by the way, they are trade off)? Might as well just get 401 and get done with the problems.

I read about the ring sensor once. Here's what I remember:

The regular piezo sensor is like a tuning fork. The tuning fork is made to oscilate at a frequency. As the sensor is turned against its axis, the frequency changes. But an off-axis vibration from the right direction can be interpreted as a turn.

A ring sensor is like a wine glass. You know how you can wet your finger and rub the edge of a wine glass and make the whole thing hum? Well, that's how a ring sensor oscilates. And because it is round, there is no particular direction that vibration can fool the sensor.

The benefit is very subtle, if anything. You still need to minimize any vibrations for either system, but in theory the ring can handle the vibrations better.

The quality of the gyro is 95% based on the quality of the software in the gyro.
