Quick Question, whats the purpose of the inset groove in the middle of the main shaft. I am having trouble figuring out which way is up on the shaft and the instructions aren't clear enough. I think knowing where the inset should be will clear things up... also, the main saft sticks out below the main gear about 3 mm, is this correct or should it be flush with the main gear...

I had the same problem but all I can remember is that the hole on one end as less meat on the end , if you look at the pictures it also shows this.
My manual was all in Japanese as I bought it was bought from the bay

The hole closest to the end of the shaft is the bottom.

yup, main shaft should be flush with the bottom of the main gear, good luck with the build.
