Well after crash #2 I have looked over the damage and it appears that the gears are stripped out of my Gyro Servo (Futaba 9254) as this is a pretty expensive servo is it possible to repair it? Can I do it myself or is it best to send it off? How much do they charge to repair them if so? Or am I SOL and need to order a new servo?

Thanks

HPW

The servo can be fixed send it back. The cost would depend on what was damaged, but usually very reasonable. Chris

You can either send it in or you can try to do it yourself. Just order the gear set for it, cost about $9.00. I've repaired mine by replacing the damaged gears. If the motor is bad you have to send it in.

I'm becoming to be an expert on repairing these servo's, everytime I crash I usually strip the gears on the rudder and ailerons. Now my crash kit includes the gear sets.

gear set is easy to replace on the 9254 just becareful when you remove the cover. make sure you look how the gears are stacked inside the case. when i removed the cover on mine one of the gears fell out onto my bench and i had to figure out how to put it back. there are no directions or diagrams with the gear sets. i am going to keep an extra set of gears onhand for my 9254 as i think it stripped kind of easy.

Digital Camera are great for this. Open the servo, Snap a picture then rebuild the servo with the picture as you guide to put it back together.

I have repaired many servos by replacing the gear sets. It really is not that hard. Just be sure to use a compatible grease for the gears during reassembly. Vasoline is not a good idea.... Rick's sells a servo grease but I have had good luck with a white lithium grease available at your local auto parts store.

I believe one of the most important steps to a gear change has been left out. It is extremely important to make sure all the broken gear teeth particles are removed. Some times the chips can "hide" in the excess grease plastered to the case. Don't let a chip jam up your new gears.

If God had meant for man to fly, he would have given him more money
