Hmm well if your gear mesh is set right then your crown gear should last ages (well mine has)..

35% - 37% is what you want to run, any more and although it wont wag, it will reduce the life of the servo...

See http://www.jkheli.com/601.htm

both of mine are set at 37% all the rest of the setting are at factory, have not repalced any crown gears or tail. they are abou 3 year old. the gyro holds great.i have not been kind to my birds, i put them hell and the gyro system is the best i have seen. you can were the servos out. about 150 to 200 flights and i remove them. any more the 37% gain and you will break something(ask how i know). hope this helps.
if you need any other info let me know, i would be happy to help.

it doesnt matter if its a fury or raptor or vigor the 601 should not be set any higher then 35 to 37% if you do you will burn out the servo a whole lot quicker

What radio are you using? I had a friend who once had his gain jacked up really high on his 601. I told him how to set it at 35-37 and it ran just as fine as when he had it all jacked up. And on the plus side the servo will last much longer.

401 w/ what servo? 9253 or 9254? I think I had mine on 55 % when I owned one. The trick is to use just enough gain to your flying skill.

Before I upgraded to the 601 in my one of my Fury's I had a 401 / 9253
that flew great at 60% gain HH.

How can you compare if you don't know

-servo arm lenght
-speed of tailblades
-witch mainblades (different torque on tail)
-used tailblades (brand and lenght)

I've never had one over 35% on any Fury. Some of my other machines I have to go to 37% but that's been the max.

It would depend on your mechanical set up as well, I have two of mine at 38 and one at 35, the size of the servo arm you use will change how much gain you will need. On the Larger diameter servo arms I run the lower gain. Just my 2cents.
