what did I do to cause this? I installed a revolution whip ant when the original came undone and was unintentionaly shortend. so now when I start the engine (os 50 hyper), the radio won't respond, sort of tries to follow commands but won't... really weird, and not a full failsafe mode, but with engine not running it can go way past 100ft of range with the TX ant down... what gives??? any ideas?? never crashed (this one...hehehe)

two kids? how'd that happen? time to zip'm up!!!

Make sure your antenna is not near any motor wiring or esc. (I was looking at your profile, this is an electric heli right?) You might try relocating the antenna to see if this helps.

I had to locate my antenna on one side and the esc to the other. Sometimes installing a ferrite ring on the ESC lead also can help.

If you are have interference issues with a nitro ship then you probably should take a look at your starter shaft/clutch bearings. Again, moving the antenna may help this problem but I would check the bearings for roughness as well.

Does the interference occur with only the engine running or are the blades spinning as well? It might help to know what brand/model we are talking about here.

heli is a sceadu 50 evo with a hyper 50 hatori muff. radio has 2400mah nicads with heavy duty futaba switch, powering all hitec digital hs-9675 servos on the swash, 401/9254 on tail and hs 425 on throttle. the problem occurs when the engine is started, blades aren't moving cuz I AIN'T letting go!!! the servos try to follow command but sort of jerk their way there and keep "glitching" back to center. everything is brand new, never crashed

The engine vibrations or rotating startshaft cause interference.
Some things to check:
-After the antenna got hacked, did you check to make sure the connection inside the rx is good.
-check over the entire heli for cracks and loose bolts/nuts.
-Disconnect servos and gyro to check if vibrations cause electronics to go crazy.
-rem engine and check bearings on start shaft.
-while engine is out check it's bearings too.
-check for any kind of inderference from rotating engine components (fan, clutch etc)

It sounds like the rx is falling in and out of failsafe/hold. Not enough interference to complete lock up the system but enough to mess it up.

I think I figured it out. I completely fried the clutch liner and over extended the clutch shoe so it was probably tink tink tinking in the clutch bell, and that was probably the sole cause (I hope). I just ordered some replacements from MRC so hopefully when I get it back together.....
