I hope you can help me with this....

I have a hornet 1 and have outfitted it with a Hacker B20-22s with 10 tooth pinion, elecrton 6 lightened, GY-401 lightened, Hs-50's for the ccpm with +10 and -10 in all modes of pitch, Hs-55 on the tail, Phoenix 25,running 3s1p 1020 kokam lipo packs and one 3s1p 1320 TP pack. Upgrades include version 2 swash and anti rotation guide, alumnium head block and stabilizer anti rotation arm, the green hard durometer o rings, the alumnium stabilizer bed, steel output shaft for the tail as well as the tail mounted servo, and last but not least the new MS tail rotor grip set with aluminum hub (phew). I am pretty proficient with helis (just not electrics) and want this to perform some 3-D. Ok, When I try to use the Gov High mode in the castle it seems to rev and doesn't stay constant is this a programming error in My 9z? My normal throttle curve is 0-100%, idle 1 is straight 75%, idle 2 is straight 100%. I can't tach it because my excell skytach only goes up to 1900, and I hear it is supposed to be around 2100 for 3-D. It's spinning pretty fast and the motor isn't getting hot, it just won't stay constant. Next, I tried using auto calibrate throttle in the phoenix is this ok or should I use the fixed mode in the phoenix (please explain why??). I already tried using the low gov mode and there isn't enough rpm's to even hover with. If some one could please respond with there settings for throttle curves and settings for their phoenix for 3-D it would be most appreciated. I see lots of cool hornet vids doing aerobatics but I just cant figure out how get mine to run right to to them!!! So if you have any thoughts please lend me a hand....I hope you can help me with this....

Thanks,
Desperate Micro flyer....

Try fixed throttle, it should work fine.
There should be some way you can get it right with gov-mode, I think it has got to do with right timing advance for your motor. And probably got to do with the firmware as well. ver1.12 i have heard is the key to this.

If those are the original Kokam 1020's from like 2-3 years ago, they are marginal at best. You will need to fly for a few minutes, land and let them recover for a minute or two, and then u can fly again. 3D? Probably not with those batteries.

Only the latest firmware from Castle has a governor that supposedly works. Try fixed throttle mode on the controller. Adjust the throttle end point so that the red LED on the controller illuminates at 100% throttle but turns off at any lower than 100% throttle. Try your 100% throttle curve (Idle-2 I think you said) and see what the headspeed is, if it's not at least 2300 rpm a couple minutes into the flight then I would put on a larger pinion. The Hornet 2 guys are using a 12 tooth pinion, I don't know what size they are using on the Hornet CP anymore with that motor.

If you have an optical tachometer that reads down to 1000 rpm, you can use that for the hornet. Simply take a reading with the tach in the 1000 - 1300 rpm range and double the indicated speed to get your real headspeed. So, if it says 1200 rpm, 1200 X 2 = 2400 rpm which is getting in the ballpark.

I got a fever! The only prescription is MORE 6HV

Ok, check this out...

I contacted Castle and they told me to send it in for a firmware update. They have had 12 updates in the past year alone.... They said that this is probably the solution to my problem!!! Get this though, If it is not upgradeable (too old) They would replace it with a new Phoenix 25 FREE OF CHARGE! I don't care what other people say about castle creations......THEY ROCK!!!!

Also, the Kokam 1020's are first Gen not the greatest for High discharge rates, but they work ok. I have a feeling that because the heli was in auto calibrate mode instead of Gov mode that it ran poorly.

As soon as I get the CC Phx 25 back and installed I will post again to let everyone know how it worked.

Thanks for the reply(s).
