Okay, LHS had a super deal on a Predator 60SE he couldn't move and I now own a heli that doesn't quite fit in my VW . Looking for some expert advice from fellow Pred pilots out there. What is the best engine for this bird? Any upgrades that are must haves, or good to haves? Any gotchas on setup or assembly? I've done searches but looking for anything else people may be able to offer.
I am coming from a Raptor 30 and 50V2 background with some experience in electrics (T-Rex). I am beginning inverted and am comfortable with all the upright aerobatics and flips.
Thanks in advance.
PS Who does good Predator canopy painting or decals?

Predator
I cannot help you with the engine. You will probably be advised to get the OS-70. The only necessary upgrade is the metal elevator A-Arm. Do not fly till this is on the bird. The Predator is a great flying bird. I have an early P-Max with OS- C-Spec. I liked it so much I went for the Raven. I modified the tail slightly using a Raptor yoke and slider trimmed down. It flew fine before and after. There are speed up gears but I have not tried them yet. Have fun with the SE.

Congrats on buying a Predator. Either the OS 70 or the YS 80 would be good choices for that heli. Get the upgrade A Arm as helitrol mentioned. As far as who paints these canopies,....Bill Ludwig does my canopies (ArizonaHelis). You also have many others (Just Canopies) that do excellent work. Just do a search for painters.

Even a YS 61-ST2 would be a good choice for the Pred SE. I just built an SE and installed the YS61. I haven't flown it yet but I've flown other 60 size machines with that motor and its very strong, very smooth and because of the regulator on the carb it never leans out.....Ever!

Well, there is an OS70 with a Hatori SB70 on its way. The elevator arm cracked by the ball joint just during dissasembly (The LHS had put it together but I wanted to check everything and be familiar with all the bits.). I have a metal one on its way.
Thanks for the help (I'm sure there will be more questions )

I would also recommend the battery tray support and the elevator push-pull setup.

Good luck.

I have the engine in it, still waiting on the elevator arms, tray support and SB70. It is starting to look really awesome.

I have assembled the tail boom and gearboxes and it seems a little rough when meshed using the "paper thick" method. Is this normal and it smooths out after a while as the gears wear into each other?

Also what sort of RPM and pitch curves do most people run?

I have +/- 10.5 on my top pitch on an SE w/ OS70.

Regarding the mesh, it is hard to say without being there, but they are a little tight, specially the tail pinion to the crown gear, but will loosen up on the first couple of tanks.

Re-check after you have burned some fuel.
