Having good luck with Nikon 8700 but write speed a bit slow. Best whites though much better than others I have tried for light or white subjects. Faster cf cards help. New 8800 is supposed to be better.

b0gh0s,

Thanks for your information on Nikon 8700 and 8800, but how about 8400, the one with a 24mm wide angle lens, does it have a faster writing speed?

regards,

Andprise

Currently I am considering one of three cameras, Sony F828, Konica Minolta A2 and A200.
Q1) Of the Minolta options above, which is better?

The Sony has optical zoom on its remote if I remember correctly!

Q2) How are you guys performing optical zoom on cameras that don't support this remotely?

I have seen some motorized mechanics to this effect a good while back.

Q3) Where can I get more info on this?

The advantage of the Minolta is that you can replace lenses, to my knowledge at least!

Thanks in advance

Gordon

all three cams are hella sweet.

the dongle i have that i bought from jody @ hcs for my sony plugs into a mini phono jack, and i use throttle/collective to zoom, and tail/rudder to fire the shutter.

Dunno on the 8400 but there is a wide angle lens available for the 8700/8800s that is an option.

If anyone needs a trigger mechanism for the Nikons, I developed a good one that does zoom focus and shoot. I have it setup on my 7C for throttle on zoom, and a 3 way switch for focus and shutter. Works well.

It is basically a circuit and mod job on a Nikon brand remote. If there are any techies out there that want to DIY, I will even share the design and the code for the PIC, it will cost about 50 bucks for the pic, the mosfets, and the circuit board material plus the price of the remote (like 80 bucks or so). This assumes you have a PIC programming setup for this chip. It sure beats hogging micro servos to the camera and makes it easy to remove/replace. (two plugs).

I can offer finished and tested units if any are interested, they aren't pretty (shrink wrapped circuitboards on the original remote) looking but they sure work.

This circuit can be used with any wired remote basically for any camera, but you need to a little hardware hacking, (very simple if you know your way around an electronics shop).
