I don't know brooksnb, I see a lot of responding but not much listening.

Mark, there must be a better way to handle the following:

1. Links to competitor's websites - this is new to me (links being changed) and unless it is linked to something that is not appropriate (trolling, spam, porn, etc.), what is the big deal? Somebody may have posted a pic, offered some advice, that was not on this forum. Believe it or not, this is not the only forum for RC helis anymore. I think RR is a lot better than this and don't think this is necessary.

2. This whole thing about only being able to discuss the good/bad of paying advertiser's products/services is about ridiculous. This absolutely drives me insane! How does this in anyway have a positive effect on the RC community? How are we supposed to trust RunRyder? When you can't even discuss the TRUTH about certain products or the companies that make them, because they are "paying advertisers" on RunRyder. AAARRRGGHHH! I don't know how to fix this but I believe it is worth looking into.

3. What about the guys who are developing products in the back of their garage on the lathe they purchased out of a Popular Science catalog? Can they not be given a little slack as far as the advertising "policies" go? I mean, come on, it's not like they are trying to take over the world or anything. They are just having fun, exactly what we are all supposed to be doing in this hobby. I believe something can be changed to help these guys out a little. They aren't effecting the advertisers. And when their product takes off and they start distributing around the globe, THEN hit them with your policy, because then it will be appropriate. And to think Mark, you would have helped them fulfill a dream!

This is a great site, and like I have said before, I want it to continue to grow and get better. Just trying to offer some new ideas to consider.

The added hyphen is the cost of doing battle with RR. The hyphened sites offer zero mutual respect.

This is totally untrue. RR moderates things that tend to replace the need for advertising. RR does not interfere with any other valid conversation negative or not, advertiser or not. Now if things start getting relentless in nature (hell bent on results) RR might close things down (not delete). This does not prevent future new topic discussions.

To further clarify please provide a recent example or click Attn:RR in the future. Beyond the advertising replacement issue I really want to dispel the notion that RR interferes with everyday discussions.

RR already helps the little guy with extremely cost effective advertising. The problem is that this place is not a good old boys club. Everyone has to work with policy, no exceptions. Examples of RR already helping the little guy: http://runryder.com/advertising.htm

i have a quick query...

is RR american?

i would have thought that hijacking urls etc etc would have gone against free speech for americans. (perhaps I dont have a good understanding of your free speech rights)

anway i still have some kind words....

i had a brief read of some of the junk posted in this forum, and saw something about 1% of people spoil it by having a link in a signature file... for the number of adds that you see on rr, i doubt that the supposed 1% of people that do the wrong thing would in fact take away any supposed income from the owner anyway...

like any site that runs 100s of adds, it eventually spoils the browsing experience, and you dont look at them. sure enough you have to cover costs, but run a few google adds and perhaps a few banner adds, but 3/4 of a page of adds before you get to any content is a joke...

hijacking urls to other sites is a joke. why dont you really make a killing when you hijack a url, and just redirect the user back to the rr site

frankly i think rr is fortunate that someone that actually sees the hobby for what it is "A Hobby" has not run up a site and only served a few adds to cover bandwidth costs and appoint users as moderators... I am not saying rc-groups is any better, but it would seem that once you have a successful business you sell out to the big guy and make some $$... IE sale of Hotmail, at the end of the day, I dont think you are wrong tp have adds, but you can go overboard, and it makes the browsing that much more tedious...

In a word "Yes"
Democratic.... NO...!!

If you like free speech then you won't get that privilidge here.....censorship is indeed used. I am not saying that there's no place for censorship...perhaps this is "The" place for it...I'm not American...Here in Canada we figh very hard to keep free speech...in the USA...this sort of thing is eroding the freedom of speech rapidly.

you don't pay to come here
like if you did that does not give you rights to disturb
try yelling and carrying on in a movie theater or on a Airline
in a movie you will be removed on a Airline you will be incarcerated

Although I somewhat understand your anolgy ....your rights have NOTHING to do with what you pay... That's one of the basics of democracy (unfortunatly a lost part in recent years).

Free speech has it's place in society... It might be a bit heavy handed to wave the flag because someone infringed upon that right in a model heli forum

RR policies have really never done me any personal harm or insult...and until they do (if ever) I am willing to do my best to abide with them....

People really need to at least understand the basics here.

NUMBER ONE: This board is not a public or government type enterprise - "free speech" has never been protected on the internet, a site owner can do basically what they want with any information loaded up to their site (not defending any of MRs actions or not, just stating logical facts up front)

NUMBER TWO: A user of a forum has ZERO "rights". Thats just a fact of life, we can join a forum and if the owner doesnt like our posts for some reason - he can remove us. I AM NOT SAYING IT IS THE MORAL OR SMART THING to do, but it is perfectly legal. SO for users to come on a forum and complain that their rights have been violated or etc does nothing.

NUMBER THREE: The amount of ads on most of the thread pages on this site and the other heli sites are minimal, THANK GOODNESS.

So, basically stay where you enjoy it, if the time comes that I find RR useless - I will leave. Same with the other forums. Thats how it works, once you dont like a site it would make sense to leave.

Why waste energy, time, and stress over a (to qoute the great SENECA's title) "Toy Helicopter" forum????

And I recommend to all RR users to check out the other forums, gain knowledge, friends, and info from all places you can. I have found answers on the spot, freak, and RR. THANKS to all you site owners for putting up with our S$%# and for giving us places to network

Also thanks Mark for this thread, it is a good move on your part

I don't know the laws and how they are applied in other countries but freedom of speech in Canada does not exempt the internet...however it's hard to police. Also ..."NO" Mark cannot do whatever he wants with the uploaded information...what would make you think that way ??
Again reasonable use of the information Mark (or any other site)receives is permitted but there are legal limits !!

I trust Mark is going to be wise as to what member info he parts with and to whom...besides ...I have not given anything that I can't change if necessary
.

I am really curious and anxious to see the new version of RR...I also would like to know if there's anything that Mark learned from this thread that will be used to improve the new version...(Perhaps blacklist all that contributed to this thread.).LOL...just Kidding !!!

What makes me think that way is that the data is his, on his servers, on his site. He can delete or move any of it, thats all I was saying is that once data has been copied to this site it is his property. He cant claim an "idea" or "intellectual property" from an idea presented here, but he can remove it or move it.

It is legal for me (and I sure hope it is in Canada too) to kick a person off my property legally for any reason I want (short of race, religion, etc). That includes saying something I dont like (not excusing MR or anyone here). Freedom of Speech is important here too, but we arent talking civil rights here, its just a stinkin "TOY HELICOPTER" forum

I think you have it now..... sure he can move the info..or delete as he wishes. He can't do things that can cause you any type of distress...but that's only common sense as well.

Today charges were laid on a fellow for emailing a death threat...his lawyer claims that the charges should be dropped because it was over the net...I don't think the charges will be dropped...The net is getting very crooked and dangerous...it didn't take the crooks long to ruin a good thing did it..??

I find that interesting.. I just watched a sick a$$ vid of a guy with a nice chunk taken out of his leg from just a 30 size bird. Is your skill saw and saws-all just a toy to? Think I will go play with my table saw toy for awhile.

Maybe I will teach the kid to use my new toys. Cant be any worse than my helicopter toys.......
