Hi Everyone,
I am very new to electrics.
I have a 30 Amp DC power supply and decided to build a small box with an ammeter and 8 pairs of banana plugs so that I could use the one power supply to run all of my chargers with the ammeter showing the total amp draw from my power supply.
Using small basic 3 cell lipo chargers at 2 amps the ammeter on my home made box shows 2 amps,4 with two chargers ,6 with three etc.AS the packs are charging it does drop which all appears normal.
I have just started to charge my 5s4p packs with my schulze charger and my ammeter is indicating that almost 10 amps are being drawn through the system with a charge rate of 5.5 amps .
Does this sound normal?
Does that mean that the charger needs 10 amps coming in to guarantee 5.5 out?
with thanks
Bill

That’s totally normal.
You only have a 12V input to the charger, and you're charging the pack at above 12v so the charger has to do DC to DC conversion to up the output voltage.
If you’re charging 5.5A at 17+V, then that's about 93W (P=VI).
So, you need 93W into the charger from the 12V - that'll be getting on for 8A. Then when you factor in then efficiency loss of doing DC to DC conversion as the charger takes 12V and outputs 17+V.

9A to 10A seems about right.
