I just received my gem 2000 dual leds. Who out there owns one of these? When I turn on my heli without the radio all the servos twitch to the leds blinking. When I turn on the radio the interference is gone. Will the gem 2000 cause the servos to spazout in flight? book says no.

update on gem 2000
I hooked the unit up today. I did a ground check and got about 20ft away with the antenna down and the servos started to twitch. I raised the anrenna up 1 inch and the twitch was gone. The book did states if you can only go half your normal range check distance fix your receiver. Well I was hovering full antenna when the servos started to twitch in mid air. Landed checked and hovered again. Servos twitched again. I just replaced the RX with another and the ground check was as far as 100ft without any twitching. Maybe this unit has saved me from a future range crash.

yep mine didi that as well

BUT i also did it in flight and almost lost my airwolfe it would do it every flight t'il i found out it was the gem(piece of crapt)

look up my previouse post you will also find out many others had the same probleme, and others who swear by them but in my case
never again will i trust one of these f$%^^ things if it wasnt for the red light sticking out of my airwolfe i would give mine away to those who like them, nahh wouldn't do that i would feel way to bad if that persone would lose his heli.

it's up to you but i don't recomend it

I got the same dual LED gem on my X-Spec..........I have not experienced any problems, but I'm using PCM.
Are you using standard PPM-FM??......I would assume that you are, because PCM will go into Lock-out mode.
Your profile shows your radio to be a hi-tech QPCM7...are you using a different radio??

Just like yeloowtang mine was causing a lot of glitching. I even took the receiver in for service and it was given a clean bill of health.

I don't like the idea if injecting noise purposefully into my radio system.

Ditch the gem.

I'm using a gem and have had no problems at all with glitching(PCM ). Maybe the gem just helped to amplify a hidden problem that was there from the start?? I can't see a product like this getting thru to the popularity that it has if it were to blame for numerous crashes. My 401 has a blinking LED, I don't have a problem there either. I'm not sayin you guys that have had problems and think it was the gem are wrong,,,but did you really do a good job investigating and pinpointing the problem to the gem? I can't find the links to the reviews I read about the gem but I took my time and searched alot before I bought one. Many others have had good luck with them. If there is a defined problem with them than I'd like to hear it so as to get rid of mine,,,but for now I don't see how anybody flies with-out one (be it a gem or other brand). As far as twiching servos goes,,,if you don't have your TX on the servos are gonna do alot of wierd things,,,just because it correlates with the blinking of the LED's is not to say the gem is causing the interferance,,rather the servos are just searching for ANYthing to tell them what to do and keying off the LED. I'm not an eletronic wiz so this is just all practical exp. for me and JMHO.

hah! I remember the response I got from electotek. They gave me some BS line about failure rates being so low one will never fail! Hah! Everything can fail - especially electronics - the solder connections alone have a much higher failure rate than what they said.

Anyway, like I said I have a problem with anything that would purposefully inject noise into the system, and I had my receiver checked - twice!

I wish they would make one without all the features - just a voltage checker with the super bright LED in that cool little case.

If you just want the blinking led's
Madisonelectronics sells a super rocker switch with the blinking led. No Gem, just a light.

I'm using the Gem on a Hitec FM on a rappy, and it works just fine. Maybe if it wasn't I wouldn't like it either, but I've had good luck.

Send it back, what do you have to lose?

one more question?
For those who own one........

How far with the antenna down can you walk away before they start to twitch?

Yeloowtang, that is actually a incorrect assumption. A heli that has radio hits severe enough to trigger a PCM lockout, would also be severe enought to crash a PPM Rx too.

i never had a glitch severe enought to lock out my pcm receivers,
or a glitch that i noticed long enought to do so.
i have had glitchs and interference at some point with all receivers.
but what i meant was with that gem i instaled i was getting major interference all the time with every single receiver i had it was always the same ,so at first i figured it might have something to do with the fusalage, checked everything again and again.
all this with the mechs that never had the slightest probleme.tried different antenas always the same.
the reason i never tried the pcm receiver was because the last time it went crazzy it lasted way long enought that i tought for sure my heli was a gonner,i managed to land rough by dropping colective and was lucky she stayed level, witch is why i said if it would have been a pcm receiver it would be in pieces today.
never have i had this severe glitches before and with the gem disconected i don't even get the slightest inteference.

i'm not saying the product is bad cause some buddys have them and love them witch is why i baught one, others hate them and because of my bad experience with it i just don't want to risk loosing a heli to this 20$ gadget.

Vibrations
I had a switch one time that worked fine until going over about 1/2 throttle. Are you sure you're not having a problem that the gem is picking up for you?
