How long should the tail servo arm be from the center to the linkage. I found that if i put it closer to the center i get less tail wag but piro rate is slower. When i put the link farther away from the center i get really fast piros but lots of tail wag. I using the jr241 servo for the tail. I know it's too slow for the tail but i broke my hs56 on my last crash. The tail seems to hold rock solid when i put the link closer in but the tail lags when i give full rudder to one side. Did i set up my gyro wrong?
Thanks,
Tony

Tony- I would keep it closer to the center for the reason you said. You didn't say which gyro you are using, but you should be able to increase the travel adjustment to make up for the loss in servo arm length. If your gyro does not have a travel adjustment, try your endpoint adjustment in your radio.

So do you think that its my tail servo speed that causes that .05 seconds lag before starting the piro. It is not instant as it used to be. I looked everywhere but the gear set for the hs56 is all sold out. My servo is the Jr 241. It's twice as slow compared to the hs56. The speed is like .2 something sec. compared to the hs56 which is at .12sec, But it has a lot of torque. Did i mention there is NO slop at all. I love the way the tail holds (super rock solid). But i hate having the piro rate so slow. Do you think the Jr 241 servos will make good cyclic servos? Im using the 120 mod.

Update: Now i know why the tail hold so good. I bought one of MDTTB's homemade tail slider. The pin on the slider is larger than the stock one so the tail now has no slop at all. That explains the reason for the super hold. To bad i never had a chance to test it with the hs56 servo. My best 10 bucks spent so far! Well i can't wait till the gear set to be back in stock..

try bumping up your end point adjustment on the tail channel. With most gyros, the end point does not affect the travel of the servo, it affect the speed of the response. Set both directions the same for now, when you get into serious tail maneuvers you can fine tune them so that left and right piros are the same rate.

I have a GY240 and an HS56 on the tail and going from 100% to 120% nearly doubled the piro rate. I don't even want to try 140%... servo speed is still an issue though, so think about upgrading it to something faster if you need it after the ATV adjustment.
