I'm helping a guy with a new Venture 50 with OS 50 hyper.

How exactly does the fan mount to the crank on the Hyper. The Hyper (as told to me by person whom I don't know very well) didn't come with any crank hardware besides black bearing washer and nut.

It seems to me that there should be something between bearing washer and fan for a larger clamping area. Or does the fan sit only up against the larger portion of the crank and held in place with the crank nut only.

On my big blocks there has always been a collet or keyway and/or threaded fan mount to keep the crank from spinning inside the fan. It just doesn't seem right for there to be nothing more than the nuts clamping force on the crank's shoulder to keep it from rotating.

How's it supposed to be?

Yes, the engine needs the aluminum spacer (I believe it is called a drive washer) that the fan hub sits against. There is no collet used on the Venture. I don't know why O.S. didn't include this drive washer with the Hyper. I had one from an O.S. 50 SXH that I used on my Venture 50 to install the fan.

Sorry, I don't have a part number but a search on Tower Hobbies shows a list of these drive washers for different O.S. engines.

I checked Ron Lund's website and here's the part you need to install the Venture fan hub on the Hyper:

Looks like a gotta order other part for mine then.
That crap is about iritating, The consumer buy a heli motor for 200 plus and then you have to buy a seperate washer, I know they don't know what all airframes it is going it but they could at least put it in the box.

The fun part is going to be finding it. Tower now says it won't be back in stock to mid april. I guess we are going to have to find someone who already has them in stock.

Another option is to find someone who has a OS SX-H, that didn't use the washer, since it's the same washer.

From my research, it appears that the Venture is the only "popular" brand heli that requires the washer. Most brands are using collets, keyways, threaded fans or combos there of, so the washer isn't usually needed.

I just bought the drive hub at Rick`s RC, I also have a Hyper... and don`t forget that the holes on the frame where the engine mounts on needs to be cut a little bit so the engine sits a little lower and the clutch shoe doesn`t rub against the bell, got it? just about 1/16"

Have you put a muffler on it yet. from what I can tell the revolution muffler. Which is what they recommend. does not fit without notching the frame. If you lower the motor it is really not going to fit.

My Hyper didn't come with the woodruff key that goes between the crank and the drive washer either......so if you need the drive washer, you better order the key at the same time.....or at least ask when you order the washer if the key comes with it.

I didn't need to modify the slotted holes in the frames for the Hyper to mount & align properly with the clutch bell. I did have to carve out the frame with a dremel so the MP2 would fit.

With my Venture and the 50 SXH, you have to notch the frame a little bit for the MP 2 header to clear. The Hyper case is exactly the same case, so the same solution will likely be required.

I've just installed the Hyper in a Venture 50 and there was no need to elongate the holes in the frames. The header for the MP also fit without any mods, though it's snug.

I got the part from a fellow flyer and I hope (time permitting) I will get it all mounted and get some fuel thru it. I am getting excited and the weather is getting nice and now the days with time change are longer at night.
