I don't know if XTR has this built in, but

try http://www.fraps.com

it's a free download that will tell you FPS on anything that you run

Run it in a window. The FPS is in the lower right corner of the screen.

Use Fraps though, XTR runs much better in full screen mode.

First of all, you have installed FRAPS but are you actually running it. You need to run it in addition to Reflex.

If you are running it you should see its icon the the task bar - the icon is a monitor with a balck screen with a yellow '99' in the top left corner.

Right click on that and you will see settings - the FPS tab lets you choose the position of the display (defaults to top left) - try the other corners it may be more visible.

Cheers,

Nigel

This is what I get

In windows - 85 FPS

In full screen - 75 FPS

These results are regardless of resolution and V-Sync.

Something else must be locking my frame rate - any ideas (not that 85 FPS isn't good enough).

I have a ATi Radeon 9700 Pro

Cheers,

Nigel

You may not be setting Vsync in the sim, but perhaps the graphics driver is set to always use vsync. Go into the windows display properties, and verify in the advanced (ATI) settings how DirectX options are configured. Based on your FPS numbers, I would suspect you're using 85Hz display frequency in during your window mode (main Windows desktop) and changing to 75Hz when going fullscreen.

My monitor is definitely set to 85Hz.

My Direct3D setting for 'Wait for Vertical Sync' is set to 'Application Preference'.

So it would seem that either Reflex is setting 'Application Preference' or something else is over-ruling it.

I set up a custom profile and forced 'Wait for Vertical Sync' to 'Always Off'. This resulted in the following frame rates:

Windows with V-Sync = ON - 85 FPS
Full Screen with V-Sync = ON - 75 FPS

Windows with V-Sync = OFF - 390 FPS
Full Screen with V-Sync = OFF - 490 FPS

Scenary = max resolution
Screen Resolution = 1024x768x32

Cheers,

Nigel

why is it that in fraps the frame rate goes up to 75fps and stays there.
but if i run in window mode the xtr shows 300-315 fps varies.
why the big differance.

In my system Reflex runs 60fps even if I have vsync deselected. In a window with nothing else changed, the frame rate fluctuates between 37 and 92 Hz. So it seems that Reflex in full screen mode is (1) running more consistent and (2) locks to the display sync even when it is not selected in the menu. I have the settings to 'selected by application' I think (the nvidia settings menu works unusual, to my taste).

(BTW thanks for pointing to fraps)
