Hi Chaps,

I am about to resign my trusty Raptor V1 to the bin but before I do I need to know what to replace it with.

I currently have a JR Sylphide 90 as my flagship and intend to buy a Vibe when they are released but do not know what to replace the Raptor with as a 'Thrash & Trash' Machine.

I could do with the cheapness of parts that the Raptor offers coupled with the precision and power of the 90's.

Looks like it's going to be 50 or 60 size. but what???????

Evo 50.

Awesome performance and cheap enough to dare anything. Parts readily available and high quality. No upgrades needed except better tail blades.. and eventually the metal washout unit when the stock one wears out.

Crispy,

If you're a JR man then check out the new Airskipper 50... lots of kit at a reasonable price.. spares are very well priced too.. and it's not all plastic like the others..

Cheers

Rotarsoft,

I have looked at the Airskipper 50 and quite fancy it, what's the difference between voyager 50, airskipper 50 and venture 50???

(He says trying not to get the thread moved to the JR section)

Depends on your what your wallet will allow!!

For a true thrash n smash machine the Raptor 50 or Raptor 90 and the Sceadu 50.

All seem a popular machine, it's a bit of a mine field with the R50 Vs Sceadu 50, both seem as popular as each other. Don't know what the spares are like for the Evo50 but i've always found Hirobo parts in general quite expensive, Raptor parts are dirt cheap and you can practically buy them in the corner shop!! R50 seems to fly well in standard setup but with a few metal upgrades like the head it kicks ass!

I've always liked my R30 for it's thrash n smash nature, it was something i could throw abaout and not be bothered with if it went tit's up!! Since i binned my R30 i'va always wanted something to fill it's place and after my last smash with my Fury and emptied my wallet i went and bought a R90 STD!! Not a bad bit of kit, completely overhauled with QuickUK bit's of course!!

I like JR machines, i especially like the new Sylphide 50!! i am very tempted with it!! but for me it comes down to bang for buck!! and the cost and performance of a R50 wins every time, gona get me one of those me thinks!!

A flying bud of mine has just got himself a R50, because like me has felt the pain of the repair costs of the expensive machines like the 3DNT and Fury!! he now flies it more than any of his other machines!! well!,,......... Maybe not as much as the 3DMP!!!!

Cheers!

Crispy/Rotorhead,

The Airskipper replaces the Voyager series.

The head and tail drive are similiar except the Airskipper has metal blade grips. The real difference is in the chasis. The Airskipper is a rear mounted tank with split gear tail drive, g10 frames and a glass canopy. The Venture is an all plasitc Voyager.

You also get the option of eCCPM or mCCPM in the Airksipper box where as the Voyager and Venture are both eCCPM only.

To give you an idea of spare prices on the Airskipper 30.. (same model with shorter boom)

Flybar control arm - £6.95
Set of upper frames - £31.75
Feathering Spindle - £2.25
Mainshaft - £5.75
Flybar *2 - £4.25
Canopy(FRP) - £44.95

Cheers

Might have a closer look at one of them!, i like the sound of the G10 frames over the plastic frames of the other machines, also nice touch with the Fibreglass canopy.

Mark, what sort of flight qualities do the Sylphide Machines have? i've allways thought of them as being mainly FAI type machines and not particularly suited to 3D.

Cheers!

Rotorhead,

You could 3D them.. but.. well.. would be a bit expensive when things go wrong. And you're best of with a tube drive for really hard 3D... The Sylphides are designed for FAI and whilst they can be made to do 3D.. erm.. there are better choices!

The Airskipper is a good range.. they're a step up in qaulity over the competition (Glass canopy, proper frames, metal bearing blocks, metal blade grips) and the spares are reasonably priced too.

And anyway.. every man and his dog has a Raptor.. it's nice to be different occasionaly.. and sometimes you even suprise yourself with what you find

Cheers
