I have G2 but I have no gameport on my new laptop, so the radio is useless to me.

Should I:

Find a way to use my real radio with G2.

Upgrade to G3 to get the USB radio?

Buy XTR?

I just want to practice flying, so I don't care if the graphics is over the top. What should I do?

Hi there, I have been doing alot of searching and reading for a while now.. I am very new here how ever with all my searching I believe the Reflex XRT is the better of them and about 179.00 at 1 or 2 sites that i have seached so far, alot of them are in the 199.99 to 235.00 range with a few about 250.00 price.
Viewing so many of the posts here as well as other places, I have settled my thinking finaly, this is the best way for me.
It is a USB conection as well and most all lap tops have at least one of these. just make sure your system can support it.
I was going to get the G2 about two months ago but decided to keep looking and doing more research, untill about two weeks ago i was going for the G3 but then there was this Reflex XTR that has some realy nice features and great graphics that are the best in my opinion.
I just have to find out if the Airtronics RD6000 super radio is compatible with the program its self

Thanks!
My laptop is the new Dell 9300 with a NVIDIA 6800 card (PCI Express), it runs 4800 3Dmarks and plays Doom3 at 1024x768 with 4xAA and 8xAF at 50 FPS. Making it faster than all but a handful of desktops . Its faster than my desktop system (P4, 9800 XT, 1GB RAM).

Anyway, one thing that bothers me about XTR is that I have to buy one that corresponds to my radio, so if I change from a JR to a Futaba down the road, I will have to buy a new version of XTR. Is this correct?

Thanks again for your replies.

Nah, you'll just need to buy a new interface cable for that radio, no biggie at all. I bought mine at my LHS and it came with both JR and Futaba cables, but that was foresight on the LHS's part.

Or you can buy this adapter that I used. I have the same problem with my laptop no game port. This works great and is a cheap way out.
Try this Adapter Chuck

4800 is dog slow for a 6800,my 6600GT does 9400. You must have a slow processor.

Are you sure you're not running 3DMark'03 ? I have yet to see any 3DMark'05 scores above 7000. The highest of the 6600's in the database only score 4400, with the ATI Radeon 800 XL (fastest card on market now, with the exception of the 6800 Ultra that was just released) scoring around 5188.

Check this link, only the SLI gets over a 7000 (and thats because there are TWO video cards running in parallel):

I think i was wrong the score for 05 i think it was 9800 in SLI mode, That was with it overclocked also, but for $ 400 thats not too bad. The CPU has a big effect with the scores in 05 also, a slow CPU will kill your score. I'll have to look when i get home,i have the scores for a single 6600GT also but dont remember what it was.

Thanks CWright! This is exactly what I need. I will probably upgrade to XTR sometime in the future, but if I can get in and start flying right now with my existing copy of G2 then I'm all set.

Thanks a lot.

I was way off on my scores. In SLI mode with 2 6600GT cards,i get 5988 in 3D mark 2005,and 14453 in 2003. This is with the video cards and CPU overclocked a little. So for $400 worth of video cards i get 6800 ultra performance. G3 runs in SLI mode ,but G2 will not.
