Changing the main gear to change the gear ratio
is it neede when geting the 50 conversion
Lets say for a os hyper

I have seen some wishy washy talk about this in related threads

I read that the stock gear has 80 teeth but the new one has 87
Now 3 teeth diffrence will it realy make a diffrence
And in the end is this mod to speed up or slow down the head speed ?

the stock gear has 90 teeth and the other has 87 and no it is not required I have the hyper with the stock gearing in mine and have had no problems, it works great, the gear conversion is designed to slow the mains down to I guess to prevent overspeeding however this is not a problem mine and quite a few others I know of use stock gearing with no issues, do the conversion you will love it and never look back power is unreal.

I heard the tail drive is different. The Caliber 30 uses a 16T pulley, and the Caliber M50 uses 18T. The counter shaft is different as well (including the bearings). However, some people who have converted do say that the Caliber 30 gearing works fine with the 50 upgrade. You can use parts from the M50 as a reference.

i carry the complete conversion kit from trim and im looking at it right now, no change is needed to the gearing on tail or main to make it work and i think clayman is using this system with no problem,
i do carry the m50 ca5505 87 tooth main gear giving you a 9.3:1 ratio

Yes I do. But I do use a govenor to keep head speed in check. I imagine the Rev lock or any revlimiter would work great. The JR Venture50 uses the same gear ratio with no problems. BUT if u want to run a MPII make sure to get the one for high ratio and it will work great for u.

If I dont change the gear ratio dos that mean the head will over speed for a given engine rpm?

NO. The only way u will over speed is if the head is not loaded. Example fast vertical decent would probly over speed but aslong as the blades are loaded you shoud not have a problem.

I haven't had a problem with mine but it can be a hand full to manage the head speed so I suggest to invest in a governor. It's not required but you will have to setup many fight modes to keep form having an on and off switch effect. This is a great Mod that you will enjoy.

A Gov is not a bad idea but IMHO it is not needed, I do not use one nor do any others that I know of in my area and no one has had any problems from basic to hard 3D, as long as you use the larger 600mm blades you will be fine.
