I can handle the expense of a crash , but the time involved in some repairs , just scares me from flying really mad especially on my .90

I actually bought the raptor 50 so I can kick the crap out of it and increase my learning curve.
At the time all i had was an under powered caliber for my level of skill.
I thought while i wait for my caliber conversion to a 50 I can use the raptor and take advantage of the easy part availabillity.
I now half regret this choice mostly due to the repair list .MY HOW QUICK IT GROWS.

Another thing some of the raptor components to me seem sub sandard
like the
1) canopy its so soft allready I have torn it . The caliber one is more expensive but the material is tougher only has one hole in a year of crashes it protects the radio gear very well.
2) those bloody gromets that go in the canopy allredy replaced twice.
The caliber ones are still new
3) the fuel line in the tank simply crap came loose on both ends and split.
4) This is a pre emptive grump :the tail design seems over complicated to me.but to be honest I still have to give it a chance to see how well it holds up

These things are only small problems but in a kit of such high volume sales and being a version 2 you would think some one would have sorted them out.

the 1 thing i dont like about my caliber 30 us th side frames if u have 1 hard landing their screwed the 4 we lugs which the screws go through to hold the skids on just break and then u have to rebuild the heli, why kyosho, why?

i've just started flyin my rappy 50 but i did have a raptor 30 v1 for about for years and only replaced the fuel line inside the tank once, i supose it depends on the fuel u use, lucky for me i use wildcat

Crash a Vigor and then tell me about how bad a Raptor crash is.I think they are very reasonable. Most are under $150.A high end 60 or 90 will cost that in just main blades and a main shaft.......Plus you can total the R50s and be back flying in a couple evenings of work. It's a pretty simple build/rebuild.

A while back I was trying to decide what to buy, I started off wanting a Caliber 30 because that's all that Tower Hobbies (yes, I know, evil.) had. I come from the RC car world where I was very happy with the Kyosho buggies. Thank god I was turned off the Caliber because of the cost of Kyosho repair parts for anything are very expensive. Back then, I did a price comparison and the Raptor 60's crash costs seemed not much more than the Caliber, so I got the Raptor 60 and have been happy with it ever since. I've only had three crashes so far and they haven't been that bad price wise, averaging around $200 each and that includes $100 pairs of carbon fiber blades.

talked a fair bit to another friend of mine, that works at one of the LHS'es that sells both Calibers and Raptors. His advice was simple: Raptor 30 is a step _DOWN_ from Caliber 30 as a flight experience, alltogether. Raptor 50 with TT engine is about the same performance as the Caliber 30 (With OS 32SX-H). Raptor 50 with OS Hyper 50 is better. He suggested that if I ever wanted to upgrade, I went straight to a Rap .90 with a C-Spec. (Or better yet: A Caliber 90 with the same engine). He did not tell me this so he could make more money, he actually makes _LESS_ money if I follow his advice.
I doubt very much he'd make less money selling you a $2600 Caliber 90! Not if both the Caliber 90 and Raptor 90 were being sold at normal hobby shop markups.. simple economics dictate that 20% of $2600 is a lot more than 20% of $1075.

I set up a Caliber 30 for a local pilot... was not impressed with a number of issues. I'll stick with the Raptors! My Raptors have always proven themselves to be super reliable "fuel it and fly it" type machines.

Send ColinB a message with this same statement and see if he will provide you a video of his TT50 powered R50 and then compare it to a Caliber30, you will see that maybe your LHS person maybe isnt quite so well informed.

I have plowed into the ground a few times with a Rappy50 and I have only broken one set of frames.. and it wasnt in my worst crash.. My average crash list is blades, spindle, mainshaft (not always), boom, boom supports (not always), and maybe a link or two here and there from the head since it goes from 1950- 0 in a hurry I dont blame a few links for wanting to leave the party... I pop out the dents on the canopy and use it again.. I have had a total loss crash on my R70... Now thats expensive. I dont know if you are nose bombing concrete when you crash but damn whatever you hit you hit hard... and if your crashing so much I think I would find a rubber field to fly at.. soft foamy rubber.. or find out why you are glitching/locking out... )
