Holy cow!

> time to buy a hybrid

I just bought a Toyota Prius a few weeks ago. I'm am VERY impressed. If you have any doubts about hybrids, go drive a Prius (if you can find one to drive). There is no lack of performance; it leaves Civics and Corollas behind. I'm getting 54 MPG (over about 850 miles now) and I'm not even trying to drive it conservatively. Oh, and it has tons of room for helis.

Nothing against hybrids but I just don't understand it.

VW diesels have been getting that kind of mileage since the eighties and todays VW diesels are plenty clean and powerful.

So we've had 40-50 mpg cars available for years. Why is the more complicated and pricier hybrid all of a sudden a hit?

Back to the topic ... I'm glad I happened to buy a few gallons before the price went up. Might just last me through the summer.
